I'm a huge fan of a device they call "Sun Lifts". Hydroponic people use them, that's where you can find them. It's like a friction-operated yo-yo, and it lets you raise and lower the light at will, just grab it and raise it (or lower it) and it stays where you put it.

For support, I use plant hangers from Home Depot. I just zip tied the Sun Lifts to the plant hanger and attach the sunlift cord to the RB hardware by tying a tiny bowline knot. The zip ties are loose enough I can also slide the light closer or further from the wall.

Does anyone know where you can buy the small clamps that fit over that thin gauge wire used in these hanging kits (what he closes the loops with)? Looking to jury rig my existing setup for these new lights.

I believe what you are looking for are ferrules. You should be able to get them and a crimping tool at home depot or another hardware store.

Here is a frame that I plain on hanging my Photon 48 from.

I welded it up last night. I still have to paint it. The design part was a little tricky because I have a 72 Oceanic Bow with a canopy. So not only did the bow cause a probably (luckily the fixture has a small profile) but I also wanted it to fit in my canopy. I opted for the frame instead of mounting it to the canopy because at times I have to take the canopy off. And that in itself can be awkward. I'll post more pics once it's painted and on the tank.

Here is mine, I have a 24" in the center and 2-16" on the ends. I only used 2 mounting points in the ceiling for all three and the mounts and bolted into the floor stringers for stability.

48" over my 120. Stainless eye bolts screwed into attic joists. I wanted the look of 4 parallel wires going to the fixture. It looks pretty clean in my opinion except for the power cord.

So here is the finished product:

And when the canopy is on:

I did this so that I could take off the canopy and the light would stay in place.

Got my photon 48 yesterday and put to use right away.
Did not hang mine instead it sits on top of canopy supported at both ends and middle. Have pegs on ends to hold it so it cant slide left or right but can slide back and forward. Its 11" off the water.

Hung my A4 today. Got the idea from dixiedog.
Unfortunately, the wife is not too excited about the
big black yo-yos hanging from the ceiling.
I may end up changing the wire to longer ones without the yo-yos.

Does anyone else get nervous hanging their light from the ceiling?
Hope I don't wake up tonight to a big splash!

I hung my 2 16" photons in my canopy. I cut holes above the fixtures' fans for exhuast. Mounted 2 steel L shaped posts to the top of the canopy and attached I bolts that the hanging kit goes through.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1378828296.682936.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1378828341.118149.jpg

Just got my 48 today. I had the original value fixtures with the two single bars holding them. I added the cross bar and got it hung. Really liking it so far!

What's with the cup?

Any explanation of what/where you got the bar? (Cobbled toghether vs premade somewhere.)

Found a tiny BTA so I put it in a cup till it grows a bit.
Tubing is 1/2 electrical conduit(EMT). Paid $1.76 for a 10ft piece at Home Depot.

I have vaulted ceilings so I made a quick trip to homedepot and got a hanging kit and longer cables. Have to keep things simple and clean in my house. Sorry for the blurry iphone pic. Final results:

What is the recommended height to hang them above the tank? This light looks like you get a lot of bang for the buck. You all did a great job hanging, interesting to see all the different ideas and methods.

Thought I would add my solution here as well. My living room has 12 ft. ceilings, and wanted something a little cleaner (in my opinion, of course) looking than a bunch of brackets, cables, etc., so took the mounts off my old Tek T5 fixture, did a little drilling on the Photons, and it went together smoothly. Can adjust the lights from about 4" to 7", currently sitting 6" above water level.

Is there an agreed amount of height that the LED's should be at above water level?

I'll be hanging mine over the tank with 2 x .75" tw conduit rods bent to 90* which will be mounted to the back of the stand.. should end up pretty clean, it's how I hung t5 in the past, and my current led hanger is a frankenstein hanger using part of the old t5 hanger mixed with an elbow and some new conduit..
