AA in top off water?

Any reason not to do this? Anyone actually do this?

It would supply the tank with a continuous diluted form of AA. At least that was the thinking......

You mean Amino acids? Bacteria will probably eat them up in the top off before they ever get to the tank.

Haha, yes Amino Acids.

Why would the topoff have bacteria? Top off canister gets replenished every 4 days so I doubt any bacteria colonies grow in that little time. I may be wrong however....

Bacteria are everywhere. you don't think your top off water is sterile do you?

You'd be dead wrong. With good conditions and growth media I can saturate a culture in six or eight hours. In your top off water it will be slower than that. Well, unless you add a food source like say amino acids.

I agree that bacteria likely would consume the amino acids fairly quickly. Using Kalkwasser as ATO can prevent that, but it has other issues.

Okay thanks guys.

I want to automate Amino dosing. Has anyone tried using a dosing pump to dose daily. I know the Marine Majic pumps (http://www.marinemagic-online.com/ca...40/9377854.htm) can dose by droplet. Setting the timer to come on for 1-3 seconds per day could probably work.

An concerns with doing this?

If the amino acids have a preservative to keep them from decaying, that dosing approach might work. I don't think it'd do much harm if watched carefully. A large overdose is about the only risk.

I do it with phytoplankton. Everytime I fill up the ATO water I just put a squeeze fill inside. Coral seem to like it. No issues
