Pygmy Octopus update 8 months
Just caught a glimpse of him this morning as are nocturnal, running out of hermits was checking for feed, so will be off to the pet shop for some restock.
Is in an undersized 14BioCube, as 20 gallon minimum and even larger is best. Tank is now over a year old, started last march. Purchased him back in August. Need a red light to catch him as are nocturnal. Has not bothered the clown and cherub, or bicolor. They only live over a year and not sure of his age on purchase. Only other unusual tho common in ocean have these cool Red Forams, thought were sponges as easily confused, perhaps rare in aquariums not noted at the pet shop. Larger hair mushrooms hopefully helps condition the tank and sprout of the pipe organs fair well. He's been a treat tho rarely observed, curious how long others faired with the Pygmy ? Did you do anything to your biocube to stop him from getting into the back compartments or being able to open the lids.I am thinking of getting one for my 29 biocube.

Sorry for the late reply.
Only thing is use a weighted lid, else all is left unchecked. If he did make a back compartment perhaps found his way back. Kept him fed with steady input of hermits, saw him over week ago, course hermit vanish with his endless appetite for them. Concerned as nearing a year, not sure of his age when purchased last August, as short life span. Still been rewarding to have this unusual fella. |

Latest, yet to catch a recent glimpse. Sign as hermits not eaten likely finished his known brief life cycle near or just over year, age unknown on purchase last August.
Had a continual feeding on hermits at least 8 or more per week minimum. Will miss catching early morning glimpses near dawn, are an amazing creature. My modest Bio still running strong, hardy mushrooms, pipe organ soft coral still growing. Clown, Dotty, and Cherub unending appetite, careful feed, like to graze feed several times when I have time, skip a couple days for safety. System 15 months old now, super fun!
