mag drive 2 rattling??

just set up my 12 gallon long. the overflow box is dead quiet to my surprise but the mag drive 2 return pump is rattling like crazy. I can hear it from every room in the house. i have it plumbed with ultra flex pvc and the pump is sitting on a sponge and not touching any glass. the noise sounds internal. i inspected the pump and it looks perfect inside. the pump is running wide open. seeing as the flow is to high im going to install a ball valve tonight. some say this helps with the noise. any suggestions.

Mags are not the quietest of pumps either. It shouldn't be rattling though.

I have a different pump, but mine will make a rattle noise if all the air isn't out if pump. As soon as I move the pump around to get all air out, it's dead silent. So I positioned my pump in a way that all air is removed when the pump starts up.

Sometimes they will start in reverse. Try unplugging and plugging back in and see if it helps. Mags may be a little louder normally but I've had the same one for 7 years and you just can't beat them.
