Apex is the newest controler from Neptune. More options and better control

Full Apex has variable speed ports built in. So if you want to control dimmable lighting or pumps, get the full.

The Lite also lacks the combo pH/ORP port in addition to the 4 varspd ports as already noted.

The software is identical to the full Apex. It's only those two differences. If you need varspd ports (Tunze controllable power heads, Kessil lights, dimmable LED's, variable speed pumps, etc.), if you need a second pH probe like for a reactor or if you want to monitor ORP then you should get the full Apex.
