Dumb question about Palytoxin
This toxin can also come from Zoanthids, yes? It seems dumb to ask, but as I just trimmed the pegs off of 5 Zoa frags and 1 Paly frag I began to wonder while noticing the amount of slime left on my hands.
I washed my hands in water for a moment, then realized it wasn't good enough and washed my hands with soap thoroughly up to the elbow. They all slimed me, but the Paly got me last, and the most. |

there are 2 guys that operate the lfs i go to. one frags zoas without incident and the other has a reaction any time he contacts the polyps.
i know there is no need to remind you but i have to say it anyway... go get some freaking nitrile gloves.

There is a table of possible symptoms there. FYI, most Zoa's do not have appreciable amounts of toxin in them. I also echo the nitril glove comment, for the coral as much as you. A box of hundreds is only a few bucks on amazon. |

Thanks much! And yeah I need some gloves, I pretty rarely stick my hands in the tank, and even more rarely do I fiddle with corals. So it didn't seem like I needed to put it as a high priority item.. But at these growth rates I was wrong.

No, it is only with palythoa, not zoanthids. Palythoa incorporate sand into their growth mat while zoanthids do not Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you Twon8 -- It's right in the name itself, so I knew it was a silly question but I've been wrong before!
