Anyone shoot with the Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro on a D3300?

Just snagged this lens and a D3300.
But then seen the minimum focus is 11" my tank is 12" deep, Trying to shoot Sps pics under T5.

Question is is the 11" is where the lens meets the camera so I should be on thru a dslr viewer about 1" below the water?

I can get the end of the lens about 5 inches from the subject. The 11 inches is most likely from the sensor in the camera. Put focus on manual and try focusing and see how close you can get.

How do you like the D3300???

I have been looking at it for a while but now I am inclined for the D5500. Any advise and thoughts will be appreciated.

Minimum focus distance is measured from the sensor of the camera, the distance between the subject and front of the lens is known as working distance.

The D5500 is ahead of D3300 in lots of aspects, also there is a significant price difference. Rather than that, you may take a look at D5300 as well, other than the LCD touch screen in D5500 and better battery back up, both are quite similar. You can save some amount by buying D5300. Image quality is at par with much higher end D7100.

Thanks for the advise. I have decided to go with the D5500 and keeping an eye on the price in different stores.

Me too, most probably will get the D5300.

I think that with the Touch screen there will be more better manage in the use like Selfin and other shots were you need a better angle.

What I don't like to much is that it doesn't have the dedicated buttons like the D7200 but that is another range in price difference.

Also remember that the D5300 is ISO expandable to 25600 which probably we are never going to use it but the D5500 ISO upto 25600 is native.

This is the information I have get reading and comparing the different models so no expert here.

You are correct about every thing. Also, shooting at such high iso is highly unlikely.

The touch screen has got touch focus, useful during video but rarely important for stills.

D7200 is totally in the other segment, no comparison.
