Is this bleached?

I've had this green plating montipora several months now, at first it was growing nicely.
I think a gradual rise in KH had something to do with the way it looks today.

Went from 8 to 11 dkh over a period of 8 or 9 weeks.

As can be seen the polyps are very prominent, and there's tissue still present, however the colouration of the flesh has gone like a creamy white.

It's looked like this for about 3 months. Would this be to do with the lighting I had radions at 65% about 12" from the surface of the tank, and the monti is about 24" from the light source.

I had several acropora which all developed tip burn around the coralites, this monti and a bit of setosa are all that remain.

Phos 0.14 nitrate 12ppm
Potassium 420
Mag 1320
Cal 440
Kh at present 10dkh

I've tried finding photos of similar situations with monti looking like this, I have not yet seen any that match.. any help is greatly appreciated.

But could very well be the alk swing..
Are you bringing it back down?

It's currently at 9.3 which has fallen 1 dkh in 10 days.

It's the only frag I have left all others have died, I guess it will take a while both for it to drop and for it to grow back.?

8-11 over 8-9 weeks of steadily over that time wouldn't be the issue I couldn't imagine it's a big increase but it's not over a short time so I wouldn't imagine that to be the issue

I believe that your only first step with your tank is to get into a more normal and natural state..
Once you've done that and things are stable, you'll have to try something again and see how it does..
Right now, it's pretty difficult to say with certainty what happened but as they say, the most obvious reason is often the reason..
I don't think it was the swing in alk that caused anything, it was the end point that may have just been too high...
not sure if that remaining frag will recover or not.. only time will tell..
If you have issues after you normalize the tank, then you'll have to look at other possibilities..

After some thought, I've now replaced 225 litres of tank water with some NSW.

I will review how the tank goes and post back to see if it recovers..

I could not think of a better thing to do than waterchanges with nsw.

Since the nsw change, I had one purple haze monti that perked up straight away, the (following day) purple came to the top and polyps started to show.

I monitored it and left things be, but a few days later it had gone back to its skeleton and looked unhappy again (so it’s not reviving )

I’ve changed all my media in the reactor to rule out any problems with my alkalinity levels.

After further testing I can say positively that it’s brought my levels back in line..

I’ve added three new acros to monitor how these go with the hope that they have not been affected by previous water conditions.

They have been in three days now and they are fully polyped up and appear happy with their current environment.
