Water filter/polisher, cannot remember the name, dia-something or other maybe?

A few years ago, I remember reading about a filtration system that was used to 'polish' the water but cannot remember what it was called. It was pumping water through a canister type filter filled with a type of fine sand I think. Anyone have any ideas what that's called? I believe the name was related to the fine sand, dia-something or other maybe?
