Biggles Frag Test

You finally came to Australia to visit the GBR and whilst here you came down to Melbourne to see your mate biggles. I took you to Deer Park aquarium this morning to show you Dave's shop and there was a fresh shipment of acros from Christian - Sustainable Reefs.

There were some crazy colored branches which i told you were off limits to bloody tourists but to stop you whining i agreed to let you pick out one of Christian's aquacultured frags, which could be easily smuggled on a plane.

I explained that if you were caught i, along with Dave and Domster would swear in court that we told you not to try it because it was illegal. We would burn you.....

So, with that out of the way - which one is worth jail time to you, there were two of each which is the only reason i let you pick first.......

Porn'd up a bit to make it easier to see what you're looking at. They are $60- AU each.

I had two that I really liked out of that group. The pink one up and to the left of the one I chose and the one I circled.

The one you circled is the one i picked out too Brandon, looks like a pearlskin with hints of fluoro yellow on the tips and radial corallite lips.

I would say you're pretty close with how that red acro will color up mate, is that your piece because it's very pretty. I was looking for colors NOT red since i have quite a few lol.

This is just for you Alex...........

When i went to pay for this 5" x 3" A. caroliniana branch, Dave's mum Deb served me. Do you know what she said in relation to the piece Alex ?

' I'm sorry but i had to charge you $50- for that one because that was one of the pieces Christian charged a bit more for......... '

It's 128 Brazilian Reals btw, converted it for you mate.

It will be all fluoro lime yellow from tip to base after a couple of months in my display. The ever so slightly pink hue to the skin tissue is THE thing to look for if you are looking for a caroliniana that will color up as if dipped in glowing paint.
If you keep pastel acros this is also the exact color variant to look for if you want a bright yellow tipped creamy white skinned stunner. It will not turn pinker so don't buy such pieces thinking they are something they are not. The nasuta thread is a classic example of an acro with non pink skin tissue being photo shopped to exaggerate a color that isn't actually going to exist unless you overdose boron and or photoshop the hell out of your pic like the one Jakey boy posted - love your reef advertising channel mate

When hurricane Irma was unfolding i saw RB's post a YT video titled ' Hurricane Irma Rescue - Live Coral Unboxing '

The pic you saw before you played the video wasn't what you see now. It was a girl with her boobs prominently displayed sitting where Jake is now. I assume it was his girlfriend he asked to do it (sad) but anyway he was slagged mercilessly on the replies for using click bait to attract views. I didn't know what the term meant until i googled it lol.

I see he has changed it now and edited out the many, many troll perverts who went off when the girl wasn't even in the video. Personally i was more interested in the corals being unboxed than porn (sad) so i wasn't upset at all.

I did think it was a filthy dog act to title the video and its follow up so that people searching the term 'hurricane irma' at a time of great distress, when a massive and deadly storm was approaching, would be directed towards what is now sadly for some, a boob free reef channel......... i actually unsubscribed from his channel when he posted those videos because of the obvious misuse of the the hurricane Irma title to attract hits - not the boob thing.

That's the way the hobby is going these days......... what do you think Georgia would do to you if you asked her to sit with her boobs on display for the YT pic that preceded your reef video Dom lol........ i don't think you should ever ask btw, at least not before i get my CSC's.......

Totally off topic, but can you send me a coral poster please Jake......... throw in the booby pic too if you want........ i'm sure the girl who actually consented to being used that way wouldn't mind one little (they weren't) bit......

This shows you just how pale those two new pieces look compared to my other stuff. The table will end up looking very similar to the lime green branch under the angel's nose.

Those new pieces are way nice Andrew! But then you know i'm a sucker for high contrast pale bodied acros. Mainly because I can't hold the contrast usually. Do you think the blue in the first piece will stay or is it going to deepen? The purple on the tips would of sold me on this piece. i hope it turns into a stunner for you.

There were many nice pieces Scott, it was a very eye shipment. Christians acros are always very nice but quite often they are really, really very nice. I usually don't see them until a few days after they are in the shop but Dom told me what was coming Friday night so guess who was at the shop early Saturday morning.

This is Dave's pic of that piece. He took a lot of pics which i stole off his Deer Park aquarium FB page and will post just because.
It's already paling and the blue is almost invisible now, who knows what it will do under my lighting tbh mate.

Another one.

All the acro's in the pics and more were at the shop. You can't buy everything and personal taste, specific colors wanted etc all helped me pick the three branches and one frag i showed you.

And finally..........

This is aimed at any of you guys who are newer to the hobby and don't know better, i really hope you keep this post in the back of your mind the next time you consider buying into one of these made up ' nasty ' new colored corals.
It's all just smoke and mirrors and you will forever regret the day you fell for it and had to explain why your $400- 6 month waiting list acro is just a green one like all the other ones are........

I am doing this to save you grief at home so listen !

The pic Dave took

I tried to white balance to look more like i saw in person. It was like shimmering yellow gold with baby blue tips and was screaming to be bought lol. The only reason i left it was because i was sure it would turn very green and lose the yellow gold color it had when in the ocean.

My white balanced pic with everything ramped up.

This is Dave's pic with everything ramped up.

Nasty colored my arse...........

Funny that Andrew, photoshop for the win. LOL

The reason it doesn't hold the colours of the ocean is because it is stress.
The glowing type - tell me in 3 months time of the same corals if it even stay that.
I am testing some frags, if you check my frag rack. Monthly photo how it will turn out.

I have this same piece from Oz. In my tank the pink went to a mauve color and the grean lightened up to a very pale grey/green. I just added it to the display after several months in my frag tank so I'll be interested to see how the different lighting changes it.
