Mantis pics and scientific names

I am a newbie and am thinking of setting up a mantis tank as a first tank. I was wondering if you guys could post pics and info, such as scientific names, max size, spearer or crusher, and recomended tank sizes. Thanks in advance.

Casey

Ok I should have looked alittle closer I found some good info in another thread. What would be a good tank to start with I thought about a 20 long aga but I have seen some posts saying the glass was too thin

that all depends on the species you get. I doubt a platysoma or a ternatensis would break that tank.

Casey

I found the pics I was looking for. I like both of them but I think I like the platysoma more. What are the sizes on these two stomatopods. Thanks

Go here Lurkers

or here

GR Mantis ID's

Be aware that many species are a bit difficult to find for purchase.

My ternatensis is the largest I've heard of at 4". Mt platysoma is around 3".

I didn't mean to imply that those were the only ones that would be ok in that tank. Most smashers and smaller spearers would be ok in there IMO.

I found grim reefs today there is alot of info on the size and what they look like. Thanks for helping me out, I am from a small town in ohio but I went to columbus today and went to a lfs there I asked an employee what kind of mantis shrimp they could get and he told me only the peacock, what would be a good tank to put an adult peacock in and have it be comfortable.
