DONOR: Acanthastrea lordhowensis

I will be buying an Acanthastrea lordhowensis from Aquarium Oddballs on 31st and Sheridan in Tulsa some time this week. As far as a time to pick it up we will agree on it later.

THIS IS NOT THE ACTUAL FRAG BEING DONATED/PURCHASED! THIS IS A SIMILAR, ADULT PIECE! UPDATED PICTURE SOON TO FOLLOW!

This frag is a 3 large polyp and one small polyp. This frag will be fragged into single polyps to be given out to the sponsors. Though they will be given as single frags, it would be wiser to let them grow to 3 or 4 polyps before fragging to the next level of sponsors. This will ensure a better survival rate for these corals, but it will start as 4 donors so we can speed things up on this. Frags to the new sponsors should be 2 polyps so that if one polyp dies, there is one alive still to reproduce. This is an expensive coral that needs a higher chance of survival. It would be terrible to have a $100 piece die.

It is mainly red with florescent green stripes that run from the outside to the center of the polyp.

I have not had it in my tank to know exactly what it's attitude is like. It is currently being housed under VHOs at Aquarium Oddballs and the new polyp has sprouted up under these lights.

It is an LPS coral that looks similar to brains and favias. It's requirements are about that of most LPSs. It is a hardy coral. A 7 out of 10 in hardiness with 10 being "bullet proof". It is a fast grower. In fact, Scott, the owner and operator of Aquarium Oddballs has a friend that took home a piece and in a couple months has already sprouted 4 new polyps

PCs, VHOs, and MHs should suffice for this coral. In lower lit tanks, it might be a better idea to keep it higher in your aquascaping. But medium to high lighting would be best for it.

Flow requirements are medium to high.

A sponsor may keep this coral as long as he/she meets the requirements listed below:

Though I am not a member yet (but will be next meeting), it is free to a member of the club providing that.....

They provide the correct environment for it to grow.

They are available to pickup their coral on an agreed date in this first case or the next meeting here after.

They describe how it grows for them under their conditions, and what those conditions are.

They promise that once they are twice the size they are now, they will donate a colony the approximate size of the original donor colony (see beginning of thread).

If you wish to be a sponsor....reply to this list. The next people on the list will receive frags from the sponsors when the colony has doubled.

Thanks

I saw the Lord at EA yesterday. Very nice. This will definitely be a grand addition to the COMAS DONOR program.

I bet it ate half a can of cylcop-eeze. I can never feed it enough. Are they all eating even after the stress of fragging? What are you keeping them under now? The 20k MH at the store?
