HELP -- Algea problem

How can i get ride of this stuff. I only have a 10g tank but its ended up in my Main tank. I am to the point of giving up. How hard would it to replace all of the live rock? Has anyone one gone bar bottom in a 10g Nano before?

How about turning your nano into a refugium for your next tank. Then you can leave the stuff! :-)

Looks like alot of stuff for a 10g tank. How long have you had it set up.

here is some more info on the tank

20lbs LR
20lbs LS
Coralife Hang-on mount HQI MH 20K
Ac300 fug that is more for Flow then anything as The Grape Caluerpa Grow Faster in the Display
Few hermits and snails
The red Shrooms you see actually came as about a 1/4" single shroom and a peice of LR i got from LFS

Why not just pull out the rocks, pick them clean with tweezers, then put them back. If you don't get all the algae, you will have to do it over and over. On such a small tank, that is a pretty short job.

I'm not sure about a 10 gallon tank, but I had an urchin that went to town on everything that grew on the rocks except my corals....I wanted to keep the coraline, so I stuck it in my fuge and within a few weeks my chaeto was gone.

I am not sure if that was normal behavior or not though.

I like the hand picking idea. I let it loose once in my 125 I had to scrap about 30 lbs of live rock to the dark sump to kill it off.

If you look at what eats alage, the options very are limited for such small tanks. I've had that same problem. The urchin is probably your best bet, but what happens to it after it eats all the algae?

Better to just pick it. IMO

How to get rid of it by something eating it, depends on what type it is. Do you know? Looks like some type of macro. If it is, many of the herbivorous fish will go to town on it. For a small tank, maybe a court jester goby?

Emerald crab will mac on that stuff. Also a dwarf angel will probably eat that stuff also but a 10g might be pushing it for a dwarf angel.

Will they eat it fatser than it grows? That wa smy problem, I had all of them but it still spread like a plague.

I would probably just scrub the rocks then. Can't you just reach in and grab this stuff?

I had it in my tank..a 60g, and the yellow tang made short order of it in only a couple of weeks. One of the suggested fish will probably do the same...not a tang though.

I've gone in a Pulled it out by hand before but it just grows back worse thats why i would like to have something that would eat it, Whats the smallest tank anyone put a flame angle in? i think a single one in a ten would look cool. I do plan on upgrading in September when i move but i want to enjoy my tank too.

Everything I used was not able to eat it fast enough. The list is somthing like:
emerald crabs
urchins
yellow tang
I never noticed my emeralds crabs eating it but everyone claims they do. DO you have a sump you could put the rock in without light? I would do that and swap out the live rock or just wait until you upgrade and put any contaminated rock in a lightless sump for a month, and then back into the tank.

Maybe the better question to answer is "What does Grape Calurpa need to grow"?

PH4, NO3, other nurients? Old Lights?

The best way of getting rid of something for good is to find out way its growing in the first place and get rid of the source.

I don't know what Grape Calurpa needs for growth. Perhaps someone here could help out in that area.

In the meantime, could you post your PO4 and NO3 levels, how much you are feeding, what you are feeding, and how often?
