Puffer fin "gulping/gilping"???

Came home to what I thought was my dogface completely missing one fin....coaxed him out of an aquascaped cave somewhat and noticed he was not breathing/using the gills on the same side of his body as his recently missing fin.

Second I dropped something tasty to try to coax him out for a better look (and possibly QT if he had been torn up somehow) he does a funky wiggle and POP out comes the whole right side fin from his gill hole on that side.

I have seen this scared the hell out of me first time he did it i removed him fromt he tank and pulled the fin out manually but like 10 seconds later he did it again this time i left him and he took it out on his own later

it was alsoa dogface

Arothrons will do this when they are sleeping - seen both in the ocean and in my systems.
