floating feeding ring

Now that I have my older clowns in their own tank in my new system, they no longer have a long overflow to hide behind, and I can see them better. Their new tank has a small pvc overflow that sucks the water from the surface as my pump pours into the tank. This is a 10 gallon tank as there are only 7 fish left after selling some. I was concerned that the flake food I feed the tank was going down the overflow too fast before they could get to it. They also would consistently hang near the surface of the tank.

I decided to try a floating feeding ring to corral their food away from the overflow. I cut the center out of a plastic yogurt container lid, and it floated just fine. Secured away from the overflow, it kept at least some of the food floating for over an hour. As soon as I put it in, some of the food would sink in the water and the fish came over to hungrily eat it. As time passes, more of the food begins to sink and the fish get that, too. It is almost dispensing the food over a very long time period, so the fish have time to get it before it reaches bottom. Well, some of it reached the bottom, but I am thinking that a lot more of it is reaching the fish, and staying out of the sump. The fish are swimming more in the body of the water instead of hanging near the surface all the time. I like that, too.

I am liking this method. Just thought I would share.
