Website protesting liverock collection

I ran across this anti-hobby website today:

http://www.reefguardian.org/WhyCare/FijiLiveRock.html

There is a fair amount of misinformation presented. I took the time to drop them a civil note pointing out some of the more glaring discrepencies.

Just thought Id pass this on.

I like this quote form the website

Why Corals And Live Rock Need Protection
"It takes decades for countless generations of fragile dime-sized filter-feeding colonial coral polyps to build a single coral head -- and centuries to build coral reefs."

decades to grow a single head, huh? then I must be seeing things in my tank.....that must not actually be there

I bet Walt Smith has a heck of a time with these guys.....I bet he is glad he does man-made rock....at least to avoid some of the flack

Does anyone really expect people with an agenda to let facts or common sense stand in their way??

Wow! Its cool to see this kind of motivation. I think its great that you guys wrote to them.

I did receive a cordial reply and an invitation to get on their mailing list.

Is anyone aware of a public forum espousing a more balanced viewpoint on the topic? I am certain the industry must lobby heavily.

take a look at reefs.org in the "inside the industry" section. the industry people have a much different opinion. we aren't allowed to post a link so you will have to do it manually.
