Evaporative coolers ?

Does any one have any experience with these? I live in the midwest and we have very hot and humid conditions in the summer. I want to cool a large out building /garge and I don't know if this type of system will work or be efficient in high humidity climates. Any suggestions or personal experiences would be appreciated.

The only evaporative coolers I'm familiar with are "swamp coolers". I presume this is what you mean?? Though I have very little experience with these (only fixing one at my grandfather's house a long time ago), here's what I know of the physics. As long as you have a relative humidity of less than 100%, it will function to cool the air, keep in mind it will raise the humidity of your garage/building, so fans over your tanks to cool them will consequently not function as well. I posted on another forum and most thought that with the high humidity here that it would not function very efficiently. Also that the high humidity could be problematic. Pretty much what I thought, but wanted to get a few more opinions. Thanks for the input.

The more humid it is the less effective they will be in cooling. This is why these types of AC are used primarily in the SW part of the country and why you have refrigerated air in the midwest. It may be worth you looking at it depending of how much you need to cool the area. the good news is, they are not very expensive. Also, do some research surrounding commercial greenhouse usage. They are used in that regards as well and might be cheaperr than a commercial unit built for a home.

I did get the idea from a commercial greenhouse system. They seem like they would be very easy to build and claim that they can keep temps in the low 80's around my home. Which would be fine but i think that the trouble is with the humidity running at close to 100%. This would be even worse in my case with big tanks of water. I guess I just need to move to Arizona or some other dry place.

I think my old Theil book is used as a shim under one of my tanks, about all it is good for these days.
