any noticible differences......?

i was just wondering if there are any noticable diferences like less algea on sand and glass, clearer water etc., if you have a protien skimmer, i was just wondering beacuse i just bought a amiracle mini quad for my 55 gallon reef, also do you guys think i could chuck my emperor 440, and JUST use my skimmer for filtration (i also have 100-120 lbs of LR)

thanks
