May meeting/frag auction?

If folks don't mind another meeting down south again I would be willing to host a frag swap or seahorse meeting Saturday May 5th (or perhaps Sunday the 6th). Do other members have frags to contribute to support an official frag action? I quite a few SPS frags (2 types of acros and 2 montis), a mushroom rock and a few softies.

What do you think?

Dan, is my tort ready yet. Bring a frag of that baby and I promise a new SWAM bidding record!

Although I have frags, I'll be out of town that weekend and can't attend.

If we can get a few more folks to bring frags we should do it. If not perhaps we should wait to have an official club swap until the group is ready. Let's wait and see the interest level over the next weeks. If not I just do a tank tour, do some swapping and have them for sale.

Either way, sounds fun! I should have a couple frags to add to the auction.

Hi guys. I would love to come but it's too far away for me. Gas prices are so high nowadays I just can't afford it as a poor college student. Plus, I have finals the next week and I'll be studying my butt off Saturday and Sunday so I really couldn't/shouldn't come.

Matt,
I can get you some frags to auction and put a percentage to the club.... if attendence seems like it wil be low on this site, we can hold off, but I suspect if you can 'advertise' at the LFS and newpapers, you might get a good response.. also I will put out an email to see if we get any participants from there

Pick a firm date so I can put it out...

I will get some inverts as well , and talk to John and Brenda bout a SWAM shirt to raffle off ....and maybe we can obtain some donated goodies from LFS's , and ?!?!?!?!?

denise

It sounds like there is building interest. I figure they'll be enough people, but lots of frags would be ideal. Let's make it official on May 6 at noon. I'll go talk to the LFS and see about posting a flyer and kindly ask if they want to donate anything. Is there anything the club is saving for? Perhaps we could get T. Speigel to give us a lecture since I hear he live in Maine now.

Dan are you going to have frags or are you still pouting about Mike for stealing your fish?

Sure Denise. Collect what you can from members and I'll auction it and get the $$$ back to you. Perhaps Mike E would help me keep all the numbers straight. I'll also donate a portion of anything I sell to the club.

OK, 1st Saturday in May (the 6th), noon at my place in Portland. Directions will be posted.

I was in concepts and inivited the owner while picking up a couple of nice cowries. Love that 10% SWAM discount. I hope to go around to the LFS stores in Portland and post a flyer if they will let me.

In hopes of generating funds for the club for evey frag I'll sell a $1 goes to the club. Anything that goes over $15 2 bucks, $20 3 bucks, $25, 4 bucks, etc. We don't often get into the $30 range (a $5 club donation), but I've a nice mushroom rock with 4 different types of shrooms that I've been working on for months, so who knows.

Others who bring frags or other sealife will be encouraged (but not forced) to follow the same club funding scheme.

Store owners and other folks who intend to resell are welcome but will be asked cover pay the SWAM donation (e.g. a $7 frag would be 8, a $15 frag $17) on their purchases. Things are normally wicked (slowly turning new englander on Y'all) cheap in comparison the buying at a LFS

This is a test model for a way to generate funds so criticism is welcome.

I am happy to keep track of this but would appreciate a club member to help me keep records. Always better to have 2 folks when club funds involved.

.

I also have some DIY live rocks that are fully cured (ready to go in the tank) that I could bring along if anyone is interested.

I will ask for the day off, hopefully I wil get it and can help ya out Matt..

I also sent word to the newpapers in BAngor, Lewiston, Waterville/augusta and Brunswick and Portland areas... who knows what interest it will generate but if folks will keep their eyes peeled for the announcement that would be great.. as a rule it is posted like the day before...

I donot think I follow your suggestion as to LFS or others that intend to resell... if they buy a frag or whatever for $15, $2 already goes to the club already for the sale, then they need to pay an additional $2 dollars to go to the club?

Are you trying to discourage LFSs from driving the prices up that will prevent a member from getting a good/great deal but low enough they can re-sell and make a profit?

ALso it will be hard to know what the purchasers intentions will be for the item purchased.... I suggest, for LFSs, to keep it to 10% of the sale goes to the club, non-members 5%, memebers can do whatever....?

Denise

Matt stop by today and pickup some frags for the sale.
The Acro in the front, the reb milli acro in the back and
the green monti are some of the colonies he has some from.

He also fragged the efflo and a blue tip branching acro( no Pic of blue tip)

I believe most of these will be available at the auction.

At least 4 acro species, 4 monti sp., 3 types of sofites, mushrooms, and zoos plus whatever others have mentioned will be available.
It is going to be a fun one!
