Do You Use a Foam Base Under Your Acrylic Tank?

Just got off the phone with the LFS where I purchased my 55 gal. ClarityPlus acrylic tank and asked their opinion on using a 1/3 - 1/2" foam base under acrylic tanks.

His reply was they do not use nor recommend any type of foam base under the tank, and just to lay it on a flat piece of plywood and the tank will eventually conform itself to the surface of the base and be just fine. He also said if there is that much uneveness or gaps on the bottom of the tank that it required foam, that something was wrong with the tank and that it should simply sit flat on the wood.

Do you agree with this??

First of all, it's pretty hard to find "flat" plywood. Second, once a 55g tank is filled up, it's not the tank that is going to conform to the plywood, it's the other way around.

A lot of people use the foam from HD; I didn't know about it then so I just used plywood.

Acrylic tanks need to be fully supported on the bottom, unlike a glass tank does. This prevents the bottom from bowing.
