Photoshop elements, think version 4 is the latest. Doesen't have all of the features of it's big brother, but it's got the ones you're probably most likely to need, you should be able to pick it up for about $100. There are also some great books to go with it to get you on your image editing path.

You're a student so you qualify for educational pricing. You can get PS CS2 for $289 at http://www.academicsuperstore.com

All you need is a school transcript/report card to prove eligibility.

You can also get Elements 4.0 for $65

Yes, the element 4.0 is very good. It has all the feature I use.
I have CS-2 but element 4.0 is probably be more than enough for me.

Reefman77, PM me your address and I will mail you a copy. No need to break a bank over these expensive softwares. I use photoshops , maya, flash...etc for a living.

John, while I may (or may not [protecting myself]) agree with your sentiment, I dont know if I would post this type of message in public forum.
