I think you should get a toby (sharpnose puffer). They stay small and they aren't very aggressive. http://wetwebmedia.com/tobies.htm

you would most likely loose your snails and crab with a puffer your not overstock so you can add one just know that you will loose your snails and crabs and possibly the perc.

WOW Kim (LilPuff), that was a wealth of information you provided.
Hey, freewilly2 Maybe a Pinktail trigger? Got this from the marinecenter.com Unlike some of its cousins, this fish is less likely to rearrange the aquarium decor or dig holes in the substrate. It can be shy when initially introduced to aquarium, but will become quite tame in time. One of the few triggers for the kept in the reef aquarium. Usually ignore sessile invertebrates, may eat ornamental shrimp. |

I think most people use these forums to learn from each other.
Its increadible how some can ask a question and get feedback on something that has nothing to do with the subject. I'm trying to answer the question freewilly2 asked. He does not want to hear about skimmers or the weather in Peoria. Unlike yourself. You tell the guy he is overstocked, but you provide no feedback to why or any sugestions. Once again, you thrilled the group with the info. you provided. Any suggestions on TRIGGERS Kim? Or a best PUFFERS? Please try to stick to the subject freewilly asked. |

Overstocked ?
No where close . Its up to you on what puffer and triggers you would like to put in there . I have a tobie puffer and a dog face in my tank as well as a niger, bursa, humu, undulated triggers and none of them mess with the other fish. which include a scisor gobbie and two percula clowns and a yellow tang and SFE.

A dogface and a burrfish will not kill your damsels and clown. Why the heck do people always say they dont trust puffers with clowns and such? never had a puffer kill a clown...thats ridiculous. Especially a burrfish, I have one, does nothing but swim back and forth all day, never interested in anything.
huge turbos should be fine with puffers. I have about 10 + three cowries in my FOWLR tank. They learn to move during the night when the fish sleep. Crabs will definitely get eaten sooner or later with a puffer. |

Let's keep this on track and positive or I will close this thread.
Facts and averages are best recommendations; personal experience is often helpful to show what has worked and what has failed. Most of the recommendations I just read are from short or lucky experiences that do not conform to the average. The above mix of triggers seldom works after a period of time. Puffers are not always recommended with smaller fish or clowns in an anemone as they can cause damage or undue stress if the system or host anemone is too small in comparison to the puffer. While a Yellow Tang can survive in a smaller system it is my personal belief that all tang species should be kept in much larger tanks to thrive. My recommendation for a "puffer" in that system would be a Toby; smaller, more colorful and equally if not more interesting behavior than their larger cousins. Ed

OK folks, lets not try and have a flamefest here. If you don't agree with someones viewpoint you can disagree, but there is no need to attack the poster.

Careful with tobies, they seem to have nipper syndrome and pick at everything. Have had a couple and they all tend to turn tails/fins into swiss cheese but puffers are certainly one type of fish where individuals vary. The toby is the safe choice size wise. A dogface or burrfish (not a porky) would be okay if you had some strong filtration/skimming. Puffer + Crab = full puffer, Snails are more of a grey area but expect that as more of a "when" not an "if" they get eaten.
A trigger such as a pinktail or bluejaw wouldn't be a bad choice but tend to be more active than puffers so they tend to want more space per inch of fish to be happy. Puffers tend to be happy with a cave and a **** ton of food....

I have a male and female blue chin trigger in my tank. They do really well with my maroon clowns, and goby. They don't even bother my corals, just need to make sure they don't get hungry.
