I just got a new 38g tall tank

My mom saw the tank, with oak stand and canopy, at a garage sale last week and bought it for me for 50 bucks. So now I have this nice new tank and I'm not sure what to do with it. A 38 gallon tall seems like a weird demension to me.

I was wondering what I should do with it. Put a dwarf angel and a few smaller fish in there and call it good? Anyone have any more interesting ideas?

I would, but it has a nice oak stand and canopy. Plus it was a gift from my ma, so I gotta do something with it.

I think a few small coloorful fish would give you a nice set up. Maybe a high stack of rock in the center with some arches, etc..Possible fish; royal gramma, purple firefish, pair of clowns, watch man goby. Have a shallow sand substrate, a decent hang on skimmer and a couple of powerheads for flow. If you ever want to make it a reef, upgrade the lights.
My only concern with a used tank is the potential for past use of medications that could be harmful to any inverts you might want. If the tank was ever treated with copper, it can be retained in the seals, and later leach out. Other than that if it doesn't leak, you have a nice bargain there.

This is the one that's 12"x30" at the base? I have one of those. I didn't like it for reef because it was too cramped for aquascaping. The tall tanks are supposed to be good for seahorses or cuttlefish though. Planted seahorse tank would be cool.

12x36 actually, so pretty close. That's some good ideas though. I never thought about a seahorse tank. Interesting.

I had my 37gal as a low light mushroom , polyp, zoo tank for quite a while. Then decided to take it down, when I moved everything into my 210gal. But then I saw this sweet undulated trigger. So now it is a specie tank.

The undulate trigger won't outgrow a 38g?

Oh yeah, It will get to big for the tank. But they are not really fast growers. Then I'll be off to get a bigger tank.
