whats the differentce between H. Crispa and H. Malu???

I got what was labeled as a "sebae anemone" today, and some skunk clowns to host in it... but it is a bit bleached and i cant tell the differece between the crispa and the malu!!!

Any dead giveaways? It is yellow/whitish(bleached) with purple tips, the tentacles all are same thichness all the way to base.

will include a pic when in tank.

From others' posts here the crispa has a very leathery looking/feeling column.

In its current state, it may be difficult to ID 100%.

In most cases the column of H. crispa in white/grey and opaque.
The column of H. malu tends to be transluscent.

From that little bit of column visable and the general appearance, I would say it is a H. crispa.
Other than being bleached, it doesn't look like it is in bad shape from the pics. As it regains its zooxanthellae, the tentacles will get brown blotches on them and then eventually become all brown/tan.

ok, thats what my suspicions were. I tried to feed quarters of silverside, mysis and cyclopeese separately... the only thing i saw go into its mout were a small bit of the silverside, and the cyclop-eeze.

Does this type of nem prefer ultra-fine meaty foods like Cyclop-eeze? or does it just have trouble eating right now?

I purchased a pair of pink skunk clowns to host this fellah, but no go so far, they are naturally found together correct?

Thanks forany input on feeding whatnot. It has attached and is spreading out nicely (5-6 inches across).

need reply on food for this here anemone... doesnt seem to eat silversides. A 1/4 inch chunk sat on the mouth for 30 minutes plus with only a nibble taken off of it.

Sometimes they don't eat right away, they're still trying to adjust to their new environment. Generally speaking, they like meaty foods. You can use clams, scallops, mussels, & shrimp from the seafood counter at the grocery store a long with silversides and such. They needs to be smaller pieces while you're starting out - you don't want to add more stress to the nem. As the nem gets bigger, the food can too. In addition to these things, our nem will eat most of the food that comes its way in the current (flakes and such for the fish). We started ours with mysis shrimp, but it's hard to see if they eat it, and it takes quite a bit to fill it up. After a week or two it took to clam pretty well.

my sebae loves little pieces of shrimp. don't feed it any chunks larger than its mouth. that will help it get it down there quickly. good luck.

Start with small foods and increase the size as the anemone grows larger. Looks like it might be H. crispa except it lacks the tapering tentacle tips.

When they're in this condition, it's not uncommon for the tips to look like this as they're slowly starving. The tenacles should taper as the nem regains its color and gets healthier. Sometimes they're in such bad condition they resemble bta's. At least this is my experience. We get a quite a few bleached crispas here in the midwest.

ok so i had 5 giant freezerbags filled with reefcast inspired seafood slurry that was wasting away in the freezer (i have since switched to mysis/cyclopeese/phyto only) that i thought i would try on the nem, and it ate quiite a bit! this stuff is finely minced, and it ate about 3 big mouthfulls. It seems that it creates a mucous around the small particles and eats this slurry.

I will stick with a daily feeding of this for a week or so. Soon i will upgrade to very small silverside pieces. Thanks for all the help.

Looks alot to me like a Malu not a crispa, i sell them all the time at my job and this one doesnt look like a H.crispa but i cant really see the entire body.
