Gray algae?
Here is the deal. I have a 12G Nano. In the back chambers I have sponge in #1, LR frags in #2, and pump in #3.
I am not having a problem at all. I noticed something the other day and just want some opinions. The frag rocks in #2 are covered in what I best can describe as gray algae. Actually it looks like gray fuzz, but it must be loose because I see it settled on my sand bed. Not a lot mind you. It must be loose and getting sucked into the tank from the pump. It isn't anywhere else but on those LRs. What is it? I assume its some kind of algae. It looks as though if I took out the rocks and rinsed them it would come off. But I am reluctant to fix something that isn't broken. Thanks

i get the same thing on my lr rubble in the back of my 24 gallon nano. I have the same configuration, except I run the sponge in the second chamber, LR rubble in first chamber, and heater/pump in third chamber. My rock isnt "covered" in it, but what you described sounds very similar. I have not worried about it and have had no tank problems in one year now. I say leave it unless you start developing problems or until it makes its way into the display. My $.02

I tried to take a pic, but it doesn't come out right. The color on the pic just isn't right. Sorry.
I don't think its sponge. Not that I am any kind of authority, but its more algae looking than anything else. I'll just let it be and see what happens. So far I don't see any change good or bad in anything. My guess is its algae, and because it gets little if any light, it has no color. *shrug* Jim
