Ive been thinking about useing one of my hayward pool pumps on my tank, its
1 1/2 hp so its going to make my reeflo hammerhead look as if a minnow for gph.
The hayward pump is safe for saltwater pools so the seals should be good.
and is only a year old, and the pool time is almost over for this year . Ive been thinking this would make it so i dont need all the tunzes any more and if it worked out I mite look into a two speed pump down the road. before pool time next year!
Any ideas or info please give
thanks

The only problem with using a massive pump for your return is that you have to compensate with equal drain. If your pumping, let's say 5000 gph, into the tank you need to be able to drain roughly equal to that or you will just have a giant square fountain in your house. The other issue would be to evenly distribute the flow inside the tank so that you don't have one or two giant jet tides and multiple dead spots.

These are both easily overcome if you supply enough drain through your overflow or compensate with additional hang on overflows if needed. Then as for the return you could build something similar to a closed loop system except for the fact the water is being drawn from the sump to feed the tank.

Other than that it's do-able. The seals will last, not as long as they would in freshwater, but they are designed to handle some salt. Also make sure you thouroghly wash the pump to remove ant residual chlorine or pool chemicals
