Type of PVC pipes?

What type of PVC pipes do you use?

I see many thickness of pipes. Does thicker pipes make less noise?

I saw 1 1/4" PVC type 1 sch 40 370 PSI. Is this overkill?

sch 40 is the most common 80 is the really heavy duty stuff, and I think there is an sch16 or something like that, its the thin walled stuff. I run sch 40 pipe with sch 80 bulkheads

There is nothing on a med-large home system that would absolutely require sch 80 pipes. Just use sch 40 and you'll be fine.

home depot and lowes sell sch 40 the white stuff...

ABS is the black stuff

Sch 80 is the grey stuff also most expensive...

Those prices are from Lowes. I just wanted to know what the differences are between 200 PSI and 450 PSI. DO we really need to use such thick pipes as 450 PSI?

MegaFlow standpipes are thinner than the 200 PSI pipes.

I just checked with Durdo Standpipe (http://www.dursostandpipes.com/) and he uses SCH 26.

"The PVC pipe is Schedule 26 type commonly called PVC thin-wall pipe. It is thinner, lighter and drains better than schedule 40 pipe."

I think SCH 40 is over kill.

What are you using it for? SCH 26 will likely be more money because its not as common. I would not trust that thin pipe on anything that had ANY pressure on it. Do yourself a favor and buy the 40 and be done.

shcedule 40 pvc is much more common than sch 26.i would use the sch 40.everything is going to be much easer to find from pipe to fittings.do not use celular core pvc it is brittle and will sag over time if not properly supported.good luck

The thinwall is cheaper, available at HD and Lowes, and is plenty strong enough (200PSI). All standard fittings except "street" work since it has the same OD. I would use it on applications where you are trying to get extra flow capacity without going to a larger dia pipe.
