This beast is heavy and you should see the back of the truck :)

zooqi,

Could you tell us the dimensions of the stand, size of the tubular steel, and size of the I beams?

Was there any method to your madness in picking out the size (intuition, experience, load deflection software, could park a F-250 on it, etc.)?

Thanks!

Nice job, by the way.

Well, Zooqi and Bill (bmac) brought the stand over today. Drove the truck right to the entrance of the basement. Loaded it on 2 wheeled dollies and the 3 of us were able to take it into the basement.

The stand is basically made of 3 4" H-beams 7ft long, and the legs are made of 4 in Tube steel 1/4" thick. Its probably over designed. :D

Sanjay, any updates?

A few questions about rust proofing the steel stand.

I was going to spray on a Rustoleum primer. What paint should I use after the primer ? How many coats should be enough ?

thanks,

sanjay.

For anyone interested... my calculations show that the weight of the tank is close to 485 lbs. !!!

Each beam is about 83 lbs, (250 total for the beams), the steel for the legs and frame is about 195 lbs, plus about 40lbs for the angled peices.

So don't ask me take it get powder coated.. its not moving out.

Sanjay,

There are a lot of great coatings available but i highly recommend that you look into marine paint designed for exterior steel. It all depends on upset you will get when the beams rust.

I put 2 stainless steel tables in my tank room and they are both getting rust stains. If I had it to do over I would use marine plywood and marine resin.

If you need specifics on marine paint PM me and I'll try to help you out with info.

The spray on undercoating would be okay. I have used steel stands with only red oxide primer and a couple of coats of enamel and never had rusting. Looking at the build of yours it would only take maybe 50 years to rust enough to be an issue

Looks great!

I have seen people use LINE-X or Rhino Liner! Looks good too!

jnarowe 04/24/2006 08:10 PM

yeah the truck bed lier is a good option too. It seems expensive but you really get a good product. :D
