Looking good Gabe3d, I just did a 4 day leak test with tap water. All is good, now I gotta drain, move tank, repaint wall (per fiance) reposition tank, fill will RO/DI and move rock/fish from 90g to new tank! I've got a bunch of base rock recently and I need to order a new skimmer this week. I'm going with a Bermuda 5C.
Good luck and have fun on your tank build! You'll have to be extremely patient when filling with RODI. For every hour i spent waiting, there was not a single one where i wasn't thinking of using my garden hose to finish the job.

hulley 03/19/2007 05:44 PM

Thats the truth! I dont have the greatest water pressure so my unit only makes about 35-40gpd!
Looking forward to pics of the tank! I still say you have one of the most beautiful tanks on RC! Keep up the great job!

Yeah, the AGA mission stands are awesome i love them as well. The dimensions on this tank are really nice minus the fact that it is realy hard to aquaspace and position corals and such.

I feed my pump with the two 1'' predilled AGA hole. I didn't want to drill holes on the back because of suction and looks. So I did something not really acceptable to the RC community and plumbed my CL in my overflow box.

Gabe

So that means you have 5,800gph going over your skimmer boxes to feed your hammerhead? Does that even work?

Would would need another hammerhead for your return in order to have enough volume to feed the closed loop.

You have a gorgrous setup but the plubming does not make much sense ;)

gabe3d 03/19/2007 07:12 PM

Thanks for the compliments guys. :)

Yeah i have over 5800gph (Hammerhead + Dart, restricted though) over the skimmer boxes. I had to remove all the teeth and a little more to accomodate this flow. If you do the math with all the right variables everything should work out fine.

I think it makes more sense if you actually see it. Hehe, but yeah this is the reason I say not acceptable by RC standards :). A little unorthodox and strange.

xenon 03/19/2007 07:40 PM

I think its friggin cool! I wish I could have done the same and saved my nerves when drilling my tank.

If you have that much flow going thru your sump, how can your skimmer keep up?

There is a reason why 3-5x turnover thru your sump is recommended. It allows the skimmer to process the water before it returns to the tank.

The 2 1'' holes are directly connected to my hammerhead so it doesn't go through the sump at all.

The 2 3/4'' is feeding the sump. I'm thinking at most i get is 1000gph turnover from sump to tank because my Dart feeds both my phosban reactor, chiller, UV, and calcium reactor. On top of that the outlet to return water from my tank is going through a 1'' pipe to connect to my WavySea, basically a lot of restriction and multitasking.

The more you browse RC, the bigger of a tank you would want. If someone did a study, i bet the correlation would be remarkably high!!:D

It took me a while to find one that had a nice even black dotted patterns on him. So I'm really glad that he stayed very colorful throughout the 4 years I've had him. I feed them twice a day with Formula One, Formula Two, and Prime Reef (A cube of each a day all crushed together). Soaked in Kent Garlic, Kent Zoe, H2O Life VTH, and H2O Life V3. Since that isn't quite enough for all the fish i also feed them dried red and green seaweed from Julian Sprung in the middle of the day.

hulley 03/25/2007 12:41 PM

I will definitly try that. I've been feeding nori soaked w/kent Garlic and brine shrimp plus for the last year. My Yellow and Hippo tang has great coloring but my Purple has faded quite badley. I'll feed formula One flake about 3 times a week, I've heard that flake food is not the greatest for tank conditions even though my water params are always on check. I think I'll try the F1, F2 and PR cubes tomarrow seeing as I'm about out of frozen food now! thanks for the info!

purebullet417 06/25/2007 10:51 PM

im going to have solaris on mine but im intrested in the sump/fuge
what pump do you have and wat ca reactor do you have. also how do you like that skimmer

gabe3d 06/26/2007 03:38 PM

Purebullet417,

:)

Hope you get some good info out of my build. I've been quite busy with work recently so i haven't had much time to spend on my tank and do the things i wanted to do with it. I did however manage to do a few changes to the sump and plumbing, quite minor though.

I'm using a Dart as a return and feeder for Calium reactor, phosban, UV sterilizer, and Chiller. Also using a hammerhead as a CL connected to an OM 4way.

Drummereef,

Hehe, dream tank. Thanks for the nice compliment, but my tank is not nearly as amazing as others. I am currently running the following lighting.

3 x 250 SE MH with Reeflux 10k bulbs driven by Icecap Ballasts
2 x 80 T5 ATI Blue Plus Bulbs overdriven by a Workhorse Ballast

purebullet417 07/06/2007 08:17 PM

can you do me a favor what is the inside height of that stand? thanks

I think I will be getting two of those for my 90g once I get around to buying equipment for it. :)

I personally think you should go with another 250 in the middle instead of a 400 so the light will be nice and balanced.

I second this as I had a very similar setup and started with 2 - 250W 14K MH and ended up adding a 400W in the middle. Looking back I wished I would have installed a third 250W. Would have been more balanced.

I am just in love with your tank. I have been deciding wheter to get the 180 or 210 from AGA (same stand too the mission). It was a hard choice for me because the 210 is a bit taller than the 180 and thought that it would be hard working on the aquascaping in it. If you dont mind i had a few questions for you.

1) Do you find it hard to reach into the tank whenever you have to work in it or have to retrieve soemthing (such as a frag) that has fallen to the ground ?

2) I saw one of your piks. It was your 2 clowns hosting and anemone and i was wondering wat type of anemone it is ?? (looks like a pink tip ?)

1) I'm not very tall (5'8'') and it is not very easy to work with the tank. Get ready to get your shirt wet and shoulder/neck pains when working with the tank. But you know what, it is well worth it. Every time i look at the 24'' tall i rejoice in the fact that I got a 30''.

2) Yeah you are right, it is a bubble tip anemone. Exactly the same kind as the common pink one, but in green.

hulley 07/17/2007 05:23 AM

reefer4eva, I'm 5'8" also and have a 180g. I originally wanted a 210g but found the 180g on sale and save a few hundred bucks. I wish I didnt save save the the money! GET THE 210G!!! The extra height is huge when it comes to everything! The extra 6" makes the tank look so much bigger and is much easier to get creative when aquascaping. Dont get me wrong, 180's are nice, I just regret not getting the 210g, everyday..... Oh yeah, your gonna get wet!

Good to hear from you. How is your tank coming along?

reefer4eva 07/17/2007 09:13 AM

lol kk thanks alot guys. I have been really thinking about it and deciding wheter to get the 180 or 210 for like months, but now for sure its the 210. Here is what i said in another thread:

i will prbly get the 210 (its only abit taller and it wont jack up the price but that much). There a few cons bout getting the 210 however. It will make it harder for me to work in, but after all its all about making the fish happy and keeping them healthy (bigger tank happier they are). Also it will be a bit heavier, but either way im going to have to add support to the floor (might as well put a bit more support to make th fish happier). Also, there will be more water spilled if the tank cracks or overflows(i know thats kind of stupid for me to say but im sure everyone has this fear of their tank craking).

mujtba 07/17/2007 09:26 AM

how much LR is in that 210? it looks like very little....

hulley 07/17/2007 04:53 PM

Oh the tanks coming along great. I got my T5s up not long ago and not to happy with the coloring, so I've got all new bulbs coming this friday. I figured I could try several different combos and have a few extra bulbs! I love having a big tank, I just wish it didnt take me so long to realize it!!

Nice tank. Slick move on getting a clear check valve!

gabe3d 07/18/2007 09:06 AM

Thanks for the kind words.

Mujtba,

You are right it is not much. It's about 170.

Hulley,

That's one thing I like about T5 so much. You can fine tune the look so much better and cheaper (relatively speaking). On my old tank i probably went through 20 bulbs the first few months.

I'm 6'2" and have trouble getting to the bottom of my 210g AGA tank also, and since it has a 8" canopy it is impossible without tongs (and aquagloves).

That said, I wouldn't trade my 210g for anything! I love it!!! In fact, I upgraded from a 180g to the 210g and the extra 6" height is a huge difference. Much more attractive (IMO)

Just my 2 cents...........

reefer4eva 07/18/2007 01:21 PM

All this being said, I'm definitly getting the 210. Thanks for all the opinions.

TaubBaer 07/18/2007 01:59 PM

I have the same design and same color, too! BUT it is 150g, not 210g. The tank is 29" tall, 6' long and 18" wide. I selected this so it can fit in the space I want it to be in. I noticed that you don't have AGA canopy on your tank.

I was a bit afraid that the AGA stand won't support the weight on 4 legs at the corners but by looking at your 210 sitting on the stand. It should be ok then.

I am still hunting for the sump that can fit in the stand. They cost anywhere from 250 to 600. If had to, I guess I will build a sump out of standard tank which is an 55g that can fit in the stand but the height is a bit too tall at 20" which will leave me 8" room to reach over in the sump.

hulley 07/18/2007 04:44 PM

I'm actually considering having a custom built 210g with starfire glass and a closed loop. That way I can keep my Custom stand and Canopy I had built for my tank! I'm just waiting to get everthing figured out first (hardware and breaking it to the wife).

I sincerely hope you post a lot of pics if you get the 210g built with Starfire! Your going to need a crane to get it up on the stand....

I just noticed your occupation (LOL) I am definitely not going to let my wife see that! :D
