It's lepastrea, an SPS coral. It's the orange version of the green one in the photo. In my tank its growing off the frag plug onto the sand bed.

Hey Devon, love the tank and the clowns. I still can't believe that's only a 34gal tank. From the rockwork makes it look much larger.
If you look at the video you posted the shadows of the clowns feeding look like a school of sharks feeding LOL |
Beautiful tank! The arching rock work out of the water is very creative & my daughter would go nuts for those clowns.

Devon,
Great looking rock work and beautiful photos. I have 5 of Howard's clowns in a 20 long right now (they will get a 40 cube later this fall) and I may try something similar with the rock work. Great thread so far. looking forward to following along. |

Update:
I purchased my RODI system and like everything with this tank build I got a pretty good deal. The system is a Spectrapure Maxcap 90GPD with auto flush, and two TDS meters. System sells for $395 I picked this one up for $260 delivered. My starting TDS is 61 out is 0. I sold it to my wife saying we can use it for drinking water too. Just need to buy the 3 way ball valve.I believe this will help the overall health and growth of the tank seeing as I have been using seachem safe to treat tap water from the start. nice score on the great priced Maxcap. I have a 90 GPD Spectrapure and LOVE it.
I would recommend not drinking your RODI water, unless you split off at the RO. You don't want to drink RODI as it will taste aweful as well as strip out all the minerals your body needs. |
Thanks, I will be splitting it off with the 3 way valve.

Sweet tank waterfall harem will follow this build

One more piece of the needed equipment arived, Watched tons of reviews and after all the discussions and feedback I went with the Tunze. I like that it has 2 sensors one optical and one mechanical as a backup to shut the system down. It also shuts off after 10 minutes of pump time. Easy to hook up and is of good quality. I think I will see an improvement in stability, and not have to top off daily.

Nice choice, I use the same one. My only complaint about it is when power is shut off, when it comes back on it immediately primes the line/pump and runs for like 5-10 seconds. I know this isnt a lot of water, but it's unnecessary topoff. I shut mine off when I replace my sock so that the annoying alarm/buzzer doesnt go off. It's not a dea lbreaker though for a solid ATO.

Really nice tank!

How has evaporation been with the waterfall?
|
Nothing that has been alarming, or noticed. I do have lots of surface agitation for gas exchange.

I noticed that when I started it up id was making noise like it was pumping but nothing was coming out? is that normal? I still have not cut the tubing to proper length as I am not ready to dedicate it to a certain area yet.

Nice idea. The sound of the water would always make me panic as it sou ds like an overflow though :) You don't need a valve for drinking, you T off after the RO before the DI and go to a pressure tank and water spigot. Marine Depot sells a kit for this I belive.
|
Can't run a drinking kit because I have a auto flush system, it would fill the tank with tap water. I got a 3 way valve ant have it before the DI and works great for filling up pitchers and bottles.

Nice tank
I really like the rock coming out of the top of the tank |
How about a video update!

Well it's been awhile since an update, been very busy with the baby and life itself. My 240f tank has been taking much of my time as I am redoing the plumbing and did a remodel on my fish/filter room. The tank is good and the fish are great, they have doubled in size and show no signs of aggression or fin nipping. I have them on a diet of Newlife Spectrum, mysis shrimp, beef heart, blood worms, they eat it all. I'll have to post some pictures soon. As far as the rest goes the rock is starting to color up with spots of coraline. My coral is living but that's pretty much it the 4 hammers I have are expanding but they could be better, and my GSP look great but have not grown. I still dont have the coral thing down yet still not sure what I'm doing or what I'm not doing. Skimmer works great, mangroves are growing, just want to get a handle on the coral before I buy more to just let it sit in the tank. I don't think I have found the balance of light, flow, water chemistry. I have yet to test alk, and magnesium just doing regular water changes. So that's pretty much it for now.
|
Hey Chris, pick up a test kit for Ca, Alk, Mg and Nitrate.
I like the Red Sea kit, but others like Salifert, Hanna and others. You could read for days about what parameters to shoot for. I aim for: Alk 8-8.5 Ca 420-450 Mg 1350 NO3 2-5 PO4 0.02 Howard Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
