First let me say that your tank is amazing. Now I plan on starting a new tank in the New Year 2006 yea. My question’s to you are. What is the minimum amount of light as far as watts goes to light my tank? I will be keeping a S.P.S. dominated tank. Now my problem is that with the high cost of electric theses days (around 20.5cents a kilowatt) what would something like this run? Is there any way you could show me how to break down the cost so that I will be able to keep the tank going after it has been set up. Also I hope this is not to personal but what does it cost you to run your tank for electric a month. I see that we do not to live far from each other and I would love to come by sometime and pick up some frags when my tank is up and running of course if you have some for sale and not mind company. Thanks so much for the help as I fear that the cost of high electric is not going to allow me to handle a reef tank. Your thoughts and suggestions would greatly be appreciated. I will need the following 1 return pump chiller heater lights and actincs protein skimmer pump I think that is it for the elecrtic I know there is so many was to go with this equipment but like I said this is just a basic set up. Michael :D sorry I forgot to give the size :) 24 X 30 X 30 |
Joe, your tank is truly awe-inspiring! Thanks for sharing.

There is nothing yu can do to prevent this other than frag. That's why I tell people to leave at a minimum of 4-6" between frags when the place them in the tank. Quote:
My tank cost me about $140 a month to run with electricity. Most people on LI have seen my tank, if you are ever going to be on eastern LI send me a PM and you can probably stop by. []rbattle[/b] I just got that page working again so the electric usage is a little messed up. Should be fixed in the next day or so. |
Awesome tank
What all are you using for supplements? I see you run a calcium reactor, but what other things are you adding?

saw this thread and it made me go sps !!
minted tank! |

JB,
I'm not so sure the tank looks that good, I expected much more from you. I think you should just pack it all up and give it to me and start over. :D Just kidding my friend, looks phenomenal as always... Take care, Ed |

As far as additives I use iodine and amino acids. To help keep nutrients and phosphates down I use carbon, a small amount of rowaphos, seachem's purigen, and a product by microbe-lift called Special Blend. reef runt and Ed thanks for think kid words guys. Dustin, I'll check those blades out. Thanks for the link. |
joe they work well. Hadn't cut the fingers yet!?
You can add them to the mag scrappers too! |
first off your tank is off the hook, amazing
second I just started keeping sps, and i see you live in eastern long island.. where? I live in rocky point and have a 125 gal. would love to see the tank some time. I will be attending lira meetings as of november. The first frags i started with are the pink birdsnest and a frag of the acropora formosa from joe fish;s tank. |
Dustin, Do you have a pic of one added to a mag scrapper? I would love to see how you have it mounted.
|
scraper
instead of a razor blade in the scraper i put the plastic blade in it.

the sps are great, but that HUGE branching hammer coral colony(correct?) in the bottom left of the tank and those clams are what gets my eye. good job man, keep up the good work. i would buy a frag pack from you before liveaquaria or marinedepotlive anyday

Thanks, that tank is gone though. Took it down to put up a bigger (and hopefully better) tank. Just getting ready to put corals in it in a week or so.
