There are photos of the skimmer producing skimmate on my website. Is there something specific you are looking for?

What more are you going to see in a wide angle shot? irellevant plumbing?
I can't get a full shot of the skimmer Steve, it is tucked between the tank and a shelf in with 2' between it and the wall. It is 6' tall. It would be no different that trying to take a head to toe photo of a 6' man while standing nearly toe to toe with him. I have no desire to take 10 photos and a stitch them together.. just use your imagination instead. |
Can you take a video?
|
What for? I just don't understand what you are looking for? The skimmer is clearly shown in the project article and gallery. It looks just like it did in the photos, except now it is plumbed into my system.

bean just take 3 really blurry dark pictures, make them into a repeating slideshow to 80s music, and give it to this guy. it will teach him a lesson for all the "videos" that he made us suffer through.

He must be interested in the whole 'rocket skimmer' thing that Klaus mentioned once... wants to see the velocity of the bubbles rising. That is something that has me wondering... but a different thread might be a better idea. Skimmers have developed into 'tall rockets' over here... where the extra height could just end up meaning a huge crash when the bubbles run into the head at the top... picking up velocity as they rise (maybe some talk on terminal velocity w/ regards to bubble size)... possibly combining with other bubbles and then rising even faster. One way around this has been to use countercurrent flow to slow the bubbles as they rise... which provides a great interface between the air and water, but also adds alot of turbulence. It seems that over the pond, the focus has been less on what happens to the bubbles as they rise from the bottom, but more on what happens as they stack themselves in/below the neck. Could this be a more effective/less turbulent means of providing that '2 minute' dwell time (something I have come to question as to what purpose it serves as well as what it means exactly) rather than when the bubbles are in 'free rise'? Could mean 'its all in the foam head' and less of 'how long it takes to go from the bottom to top'? If anyone is interested, I would love to see what some have to say, and maybe throw some ideas out there for review... but not in this thread.
One such wacky idea I have is how oversizing a skimmer can actually lead to poorer skimming/water quality. It sounds far-fetched, but I have observed something in skimmer necks that you can all as well. If you agree... it might even imply that wet skimming could be worse than dry skimming. Imagine that. Interested... start a thread. That way this thread can stay on track and we can talk about Bean's rocket skimmer in another thread. |

I love it when people post things like 'video of new ___-uber part for your ______'... and the link is to a youtube video that after 5 seconds turns into a crappy 80's video. At least he never did that. I should do that...lol. "click on vid to see new Bubbleking Calcium Reactor!!!!" Then you click on it, see a still photo with some text... maybe talk a little about it and build anticipation with some cool music... then switch right to Rick Astley's 'Together Forever' music video so everyone hates me...lol. |

LFP.
Just wanted to say thank you. I finally built my first Venuri and hooked it up. It is feeding a OTP-2000 pump with the pin wheel impellor (just testing to compare to the needlewheel), and I am getting 8 to 9 scfh on a completely stock otp pump connected to an asm g1 skimmer. Now I need to switch impellors and do a mesh mod and see how it does. Also need to try a different venturi with large air input holes. Thanks Kim |
Glad I stumbled across this thread. I think I may give this a try when I build my skimmer. Incredible!!

Anyone have the pics of how to make one?
