Sanjay,

No one responded to your question about the space requirements of the Dart pump. Although I don't have this particular Sequence pump, the motor frames are comparable. I estimate that you will need 30 inches to accommodate the pump, fittings and ventilation space.

Greg,

Thanks. Those pumps + fittings do take up a lot of space. May be I can put in a bigger intake from the sump, put in a 90 and run the pump+ fittings parallel to the sump.

How wide are these pumps ?

I am seriously rethinking the closed loops now. The cost of the pump + true union ball valves + fittings is not too far from a Tunze stream or a Vortec pump. I will get about the same amount of flow at less than 1/3 the electricity. !! with no ugly plumbing and 35 lb pumps to hide and mount.

jnarowe 03/24/2006 12:10 AM

Sanjay, the Sequence Pump (MDMC Inc.) web site has all the measurements of each pump they make. It is a great source for researching specs. on a variety of pumps and very useful when comparing to other brands as well.

Seriously though, I am going all Vortech for display flow. Not just to save on electricity but to also allow me to move the pumps around as well as giving a higher level of safety. Lets say you have a pump malfunction. Would you want it to be a Hammerhead driving a 4-way to returns, or one of 4 Vortechs? What about when the power goes out? That is a real rpobelm where I live, and even if Eco-Tech doesn't produce the battery backup as is the current plan, I can always use a UPS to drive the Vortechs and maintain flow.

I use a Sequence pump for my return, and I will use one to drive my NW skimmer, but either one of those can go down temporarily and not crash the system. I realize that upfront cost is steep, but they will pay for themselves rather quickly.

Ixthys 03/24/2006 09:16 AM

Jnarowe,
Any reason you'd choose the vortech over the tunze?

jnarowe 03/24/2006 09:33 AM

Well that's a good question. Primarily because I don't like the way the Tunze look inside the tank and I don't want any wires in the water. Also, it really gripes me that they charge extra for magnet mounts.

I am also a bit partial to American companies I suppose. I think the Tunze performance is good but I think the Vortech is a better value.

IceCap is going to charge extra for the battery backup...

Just another idea if you decide to go with the Streams.
Have Will build a little partition out of smoked glass in your tank to hide them.

Unless I am missing something at that web site, I did not find the dimensions for the Sequence Dart.

I too am planning on just using the 2 Darts for circulation, feeding the chiller, etc. The size of the pump and the large size plumbing requirements and space requirements makes it a less attractive option for anything else.

jnarowe 03/25/2006 11:38 AM

You know I went back and looked and I can't find it either. Sorry! I know I saw it somehwere though. I'll check my links and see if i can find it again. Also, you could PM SPAZZ since he has one and can measure it for you. I only have a 4300 and a Hammerhead so my measurements wouldn't be exact.

It seems to me you should have enough room with that big tank room you have, but I understand why you want to know.

jnarowe 03/25/2006 11:45 AM

Found it on the customaquatic site:

"Cost effective dimensions: 7 inches long by 6.57 inches wide by 11 inches long."

But that sounds a little confusing to me.

Take over half the garage already... your wife will never notice:rolleyes: . You could say she has the option of losing part of the garage or the bedroom next door:)

Ohh.. I wrote first time in Cirilc code page , sorry, so the question for mantis, off topic, I wish you can provide a link from a tank you show.

jordan8008 03/27/2006 11:51 AM

Sanjay, are you using sketchup for those 3d drawings if so id like to ask how your posting them, I am trying to post a drawing on a local forum and I cant find a online file host for skp. files and thus havent been able to post the pics.......ovcourse if your not using sketchup then just void this message.....btw....things are looking good and I cant wait to see the tank full!!

Thanks

Jordan

Sanjay 03/27/2006 02:51 PM

No, i used Pro Engineer for the models. Saved them as JPEG files and host them on my website.

jordan8008 03/27/2006 08:11 PM

Ok thanks anyways, i guess back to the drawing board

Do they bother your corals?

It's not in the back of the tank...

http://home.earthlink.net/~divers2/s...s/corytank.jpg

The clam is located on the "left" side of the tank (above the built in bookshelf)...

Bax 04/01/2006 06:51 AM

I just love Mantis' tank, can never get enough of pics of the display & equipment ... sorry Sanjay ... just had to say that ... I'll return to lurking now ... I am enjoying watch your system develop as well :)
