I noticed it looked a little dark in the FTS back a few pages with all 12 bulbs running and I wanted to see if you thought i would have enough light.
Hey Jason, Obviously I'm not Mike, but when I saw his tank his lights where extremely impressive. My new tank is 36" wide as well, and I've been intrigued by all the sweet T5 tanks around these days, but couldn't imagine a 20" or so fixture outputing sufficient light...boy was I wrong. This thing is bright, super bright. Mikes tank is 26" deep and there are some LPS he was showing me that didn't appreciate that much light on the bottom of the tank! After talking with Mike, I might end up going with a 36"W fixture over my 48"W tank, depending on how much LPS I want to add. You'll have no issues growing SPS on the bottom under a fixture like this.

wow mike's not even here to summarize or celebrate! tank looks great hope your trip is amazing

Lowredranger 11/16/2008 09:51 PM

Thanks Stunreefer, that is what i was wondering i figured the retrofit T-5's with 8x100w should be enough since that is more light than he has but i know the fixture he has is top of the line.
Thanks

split.....nice

chingchai 11/26/2008 08:04 PM

Mike, your PM box is full.

mcliffy2 11/27/2008 10:29 AM

Ching - PM box is cleared out. Obviously we won't be able to make it into Bangkok tomorrow. Hopefully the airports will re-open soon and we are still hoping to visit you.

Untamed12 11/27/2008 06:53 PM

So, if you are replacing your Reeflo for something in-sump...what have you decided upon? I'm very curious because I was thinking of retrofitting a Reeflo INTO my sump because I've been unable to find an in-sump skimmer that is comparable.

Jflip2002 11/27/2008 11:32 PM

I believe Mike said he was going the KZ route.

Untamed12 11/27/2008 11:47 PM

Yes...now that you mention KZ, that does sound familiar.... Thanks.

mcliffy2 11/28/2008 06:34 AM

Nope - ATB, their cone is much better than KZ :)

Jflip2002 11/28/2008 07:07 PM

Edit: Mike said ATB cone, not KZ cone. =\

Howre they priced, relatively affordable? I want a new skimmer, the octo 250 pro is gonna be sold. Im looking at a BK180, I can get a little discount on it. But if that cone is cheaper and better....

skey44 11/28/2008 10:59 PM

atb or wm cone the way to go. mike was everything okay with your trip and all the attacks? best wishes to you in your travels.

mcliffy2 11/29/2008 12:44 AM

skey - thanks much. Everything is ok, but it looks like it will be an extended trip (Eric & Brandon - I'll be contacting you with details shortly). We were scheduled to fly out tomorrow (Sunday), but have now been rescheduled to fly out on Thursday from Bangkok (if, of course, the airport re-opens).

In the meantime, here are a few preview pics from the awesome diving here in Thailand. I will post a full thread of pics when I return:

New tank shots?

Dudester 12/04/2008 09:48 PM

I'll forgive the double post ... those were worth seeing twice.

bues0022 12/05/2008 07:50 AM

Are you back state-side yet? Hopefully all went well. When you get a chance post up some more pictures of your trip, and some tank updates.

Ccondo 12/05/2008 09:18 AM

Nice diving pics. I can't wait to expand my diving beyond the Carribean.
Questions for mcliffy:
You may have already covered this but how do you like your Vortechs? Where are they placed? Have you ever owned Tunzes? How would you compare the 2? I assume your glass thickness is right @ the .75" cutoff (as mine is) and I was wondering how it faired...

JRaquatics 12/05/2008 11:48 AM

Mike are you back home yet? I hope the tank survived while you were away.

bues0022 12/05/2008 11:52 AM

Ccondo - Hopefully Mike can confirm, but I think his glass is 0.5" thick.

glassbox-design 12/05/2008 06:49 PM

Mike is arriving today, he had a brief lay over in Japan for the sole purpose of making me more envious of his trip ;) The tank is doing well though.

mcliffy2 12/06/2008 08:35 AM

I'm back safely, thanks much to all who voiced concern. I'll slowly recount all the stories and get my pics edited and uploaded. Here are a few that didn't need much editing for the time-being:
