FishyBiz's 190 Tank adventure

Well I figured it was probably time to start my tank build thread on my new setup. Its taken me about five months to get where I'm at but I should have water in this thing by the end of the month. I thought about posting this in the Large Tank section but I feel its still small and plan on building something like 500-1000 gallons when I buy a new house so I'll wait until then to post in the Large Tanks.

Right now I have a 120 in my office but have two problems with it.
1) When I do a water change I have to cart the buckets pretty far from the warehouse to the tank. And...
2) When the chiller kicks on my office seems to get 100 degrees hotter.
So what's the solution???? Just build another office. :eek2:
My new office backs up to my warehouse where I can drain the water by a hose and also refill it by a hose. No more lugging buckets!!:smokin: Also I can put my chiller in the warehouse so I cant hear it or feel the heat it puts off.

Here are some specs:
Tank: 60l x 24w x 30t Starefire (Its really 187g but I like to round up)
Sump: 36x18x18 MRC Reef sump with built in refugium
Return Pump: Reeflo Dart
Calcium Reactor: Korallin C-1502 (This should be fun:confused: )
Skimmer: Euro Reef RS250 with gate valve mod (may also do the recirc mod)
Lights: Dont have any yet but plan on (2) 400w Radium bulbs in Lumenarc III reflectors with a PFO balast
Circulation: Right now I have (2) MJ 1200 mods but plan to replace them down the line with a Tunze setup.

I know... I know... bla bla bla WHERES THE PICS????

Here the are!
The first pic is a sketch so you can get an idea of whats going on. My old office is the one with the tank in it, and the new office is dirctly accross from it with the hole in the wall.

Next is an actual pic of the construction. (done by myself)
I added (3) 20amp dedicated circuits for the tank.

Now fast farward a couple months after carpet, paint, and stuff like that.

This is what I started with. A used tank with an ugly stand. I repainted the back, painted the stand with epoxy (inside white gloss / outside black matt finish) Tons of work have gone into this thing.

Old:

New:

Notice the hole under the stand? Its covered with a piece of drywall right now but will later have some sort of cabinet on the back.

This is where im at right now. I just got new hardware and put the doors on. The canopy has not been painted yet because it needs to be modded for the lights.

Thats awsome.
My first thought was to stain everything but oak has such deep pours it was hard to get the finish off. I dyed it about three times and then took the whole thing to Dip-n-Strip because I didnt have the time to strip everything. They wanted like $600 to strip it and I was like :eek1: .
It cost me nothing to paint it because one of my paint reps gave me the epoxy. Id rather spend the money on something else. But it would have looked nice stained.

rockindacheeks 04/12/2007 04:27 PM

thats a really nice setup. good work

psidriven 04/12/2007 06:07 PM

Hey, watching paint dry is fun, j/k. Nice set up. I like having a back entrance to the stand. That should come in handy.

More Pics!

Well... yesterday I installed a cabinet on the back of the warehouse wall that goes into my office. Boy was that a task. The first one I built crumbled to pieces when I stood it up. :mad2: I had to go to Lowes and get a new one. I plan to plumb the chiller to the left outside of the cabinet.

This is a shot with the doors open. I plan to arange the equipment similar to the way it is right now, but Im not 100% sure how i'm going to plumb the stuff.

Updates

Well I got my base rock last week. I took it out back and hosed it off first. Then I washed it twice in RO water and let dry for a couple of days.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...z/IMG_2955.jpg
I moved the rock around like 9 times before I got it the way I wanted. Im sure I will move or adjust it more when I bring in the 100+ pounds from my 112 gallon thats been running for over 2 years.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...z/IMG_2963.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...z/IMG_2964.jpg

I also got my refugium light on. I had to mod the legs so it could slide from side to side for access.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...z/IMG_2959.jpg
