quick diy lr question

I started to flip through the thread below, but after I got to page 3 of 36 I gave up. I'm having problems finding silicate free sand and was wondering if I used sand w/silicate in it would it leach out of the rock once properly cured?

Silica sand is fine to use. The silica within it is virtually inert. Like glass crushed up really fine. Does the glass from your aquarium leech silicates? no.

MANY people use silica sand in their tanks, not just for diy liverock, for the entire substrate.

Long story short, it will be fine. But you do have an alternative in Pulverized Limestone. This will be available in most Home Depots in the lawn and garden section. It's calcium carbonate based sand.... the exact same thing as aragonite.

It's been a few years since I made rock? Last time I just used sand, portland cement, and rock salt for the craters. Tell me again what this stuff is?

check with your local feed store. they sell calcium carbonate for chicken feed. I use it all the time. mine is made by franklin mine and mineral.
