Witch pump?
I have a mag 18 as a return on my 120. I have been told that it is too much. They said i need to drop to a mag 9.5 to give my cheato time to eat
|
Install a gate valve and throttle it back.

I'm sure you will get different opinions, but I don't think the 18 is too much. You could always use a ball valve on the return side to throttle it back a bit...
I've frankly never understood the "slow water" in the fuge thing. Sure, you don't want your ball of chaeto to get hammered by the flow, but its not like the nitrates are on a conveyor belt and the chaeto has to grab them as they go by.... :D Best wishes, |
If you have dual overflows I think it is fine. I have a 9.5 on my 90 and wish I would have went with the 12.
I have also been told you only want as much flow through your sump as your skimmer can skim, and make up the rest of the flow with cl or ph. |
Are you having a micro bubble problem or something? If not, it's not too much flow.
|
No micro bubbles or anything.

Then no problem... Tell the people telling you this to worry about their own tanks :D

Well, throttling back might reduce noise and some some electricity, but I don't personally think the Chaetomorpha much cares, as long as it's not being shredded. I'd probably only target about 300 gph through the sump, but if you are happy with the setup, I'd say leave it alone.
|
Unless you're using an overflow-driven recirculating skimmer, the flow through the sump doesn't affect the skimmer, well, in the range we're discussing. Zero flow would cause a problem. :)

Thanks for the help

You can throttle back any pump all you are doing is increasing the head pressure, it will run a little warmer and burn a few more watts.
