Mag Drive maxijet mod?

With the sucess of the maxijet mods making these pumps high flow units, I was thinking, on a larger scale.

Could someone or has someone tried doing this to a mag drive pump? For large tanks, this seems like a possible way to make some huge waves!

spscrackhead 11/17/2007 10:23 AM

i also have the same question

JaredWaites 11/17/2007 11:51 AM

**** I was thinking the same thing just the other day!

Bump!

rnhrtfan 11/17/2007 12:13 PM

good idea anyone have anything on this yet????? surely someone has tried it...

superedge88 11/17/2007 12:20 PM

spazz did one on a big eheim once.

JaredWaites 11/17/2007 12:44 PM

Pics?

Where's the thread, I've been searching.

Lucky Strike 11/17/2007 06:10 PM

its the same concept as the maxijet mods, just with a different pump and different propeller sizes. spazzs moved like 4300 gph on a 1250.

JaredWaites 11/17/2007 09:34 PM

We know its the same concept, we're trying to see if someone has done it and can further explain...there might be certain details that are important and I don't feel like tearing up a brand new mag ;)

Jeff 11/17/2007 09:54 PM

It would be just like a larger, hot Tunze stream but less expensive ;)

Dude, your as sick as I am...

I thought about doing that to a Mag5 I have...But I only have a 37 gallon tank >big time overkill< however after looking at the pump and taking the cover off I think it would be just as easy to mod a mag as an MJ and then but it all back like new if you don't like it...

I think I'm going to watch this one a bit...

specialkb 11/18/2007 12:26 AM

I know it's been done to a mag 18 but i cant give any details as of right now. maybe this person will chime in all i can say is LOTS OF FLOW

JaredWaites 11/18/2007 08:30 AM

Why so hush hush?

Top secret coral aquaculture mission?

I have a mag 18 prop unit prop prototype in use and it moves a ton of water, even in a 20k gallon tank. The guy who made it for me is a very busy guy, but may chime in at some point.

any pics?

JaredWaites 11/18/2007 05:10 PM

Yeah pics would be awesome, I can understand though if your too busy with the 20k system lol ;)

That would be awesome if you can have your friend post about him modding the Mag 18.

I'm ready to mod this 7, and get some serious flow for the 150.

spscrackhead 11/18/2007 07:19 PM

do you think a modded 5 would be too much for a 75?

BlakDuc 11/18/2007 08:00 PM

5 or 7 wouldn't matter. They are the same motor. It would all depend on what prop you use. You could always adjust the flow on it by cutting down the prop or getting a smaller one for it.

The guy who made me one has a lot of time into it, and he isn't ready to release the details yet so sorry I can't post any pics right now. My apologies, but I do want to honor his request but did want to confirm that it is a viable project. It does move a tremendous amount of water.

krikor 11/19/2007 08:22 AM

So if i buy a mag 7 prop for my mag 5 it will work?

Tagging along... i love modding things... lol

BlakDuc 11/19/2007 08:38 AM

A mag 7 "impellor" will work in a mag 5 casing.

krikor 11/19/2007 08:55 AM

Thanks, good to know if i need more output for my mag5, Sorry about calling it a prop... all this talk about prop modding the impeller, i had props on the mind.

JaredWaites 11/19/2007 09:01 AM

Well we used to own a hobby shop a while back, I wonder if I can get a hold of Dumas and get some big props.

JaredWaites 11/19/2007 09:13 AM

Justjoe,

How are you lighting that 20K tank at 6 1/2 feet deep?

dngspot 11/19/2007 10:08 AM

I have seen a post on the hitchhikers guide to maxi jet mods. Deep in the post you will find it. What I remember is the guy was lifting rocks in a small tank.
