gabe3d 02/06/2008 01:51 AM

Ooooh! How do you like it so far? Also can you take a shot of the bubbles at the neck?

daytonreefRob 02/06/2008 08:53 PM

Those look so nice I would be afraid to put them in saltwater!

mr294 02/06/2008 09:19 PM

Veeeery nice. I wish I had a tank big enough to put a supermarin on :D

ConcreteReefer 02/06/2008 10:20 PM

sweet!

fishfiend00s 02/06/2008 10:25 PM

NICE

kenettson1 02/07/2008 04:53 AM

Thanks all.

News today... It started skimming already! When I hooked it up originally I positioned the standpipe wide open leaving the bubbles breaking very low in the skimmer. Then today I adjusted the standpipe and low and behold it started forming a foam head. I'm skimming dry for now cause I dont it to finish breaking in and overflow. I'll take pics later and post to this thread. I was anticipating a wait of a week or more for break in but was pleasently surprised.

New Pics

Here's a pic of the foam.

It's doing pretty darn good arleady.

Nothin wrong with the rubbermaid sump, thats all i've ever used.

kenettson1 02/09/2008 10:49 PM

actually when I setup my tank all the little costs- plumbing, stand materials, new sand, etc added up quick so I went with a ribbermaid for the time being.

I actually talked to the store I bought the tank from today and they have a 72x24x16 sump that I may buy. It wouldn't fit directly under my stand but I could run it under half of my stand perpendicular and it would stick out the back about 3 feet. The good part would be I could have east access to the skimmer and reactors for maintenance.

My tank is in our unfinished basement so asthetics aren't a necesity. I'm almost the only one who ever looks at it.

Very cool!

Hey kenettson1,

How would you compare your AP851 to the BKs in terms of performance?
What do you think about losing the height advantage that the 851 had over the BK's?

I have a 902 and have been thinking bout trying a deluxe 300 or a 250 supermarine... would love your opinion.

kenettson1 02/10/2008 12:01 AM

To this point the 851 has been the best skimmer I've ever owned. It always skimmed chunky, dark, nasty smelling nog. It also never quit even with a very dirty neck.

It is too early to really compare performance as its still less than a week old. When comparing collection cup pics remember that the bk has a white base making the skimate appear lighter than what you are used to. I have been skimming dry with the bubbleking and skimate consistency appears similar to the deltec although the appearance may look lighter. The red dragon pump is dead silent and the air silencer makes a difference. I've tried to listen for it when I turn it on and even when I try I can't hear it. The deltec was very quiet but had a hiss from the air intake.

On the height issue maybe more flow, more air, and the conical design that reduces turbulence makes up for the height in terms of measuring performance.

The 851 is still a heck of a skimmer but I have been impressed by the supermarine so far. I would still be using it if I hadn't got the new skimmer bug. :)

Treg 02/10/2008 12:16 AM

Yeah, That bug is bitting at me also... My 902 does a fantastic job too. No real "good reason" to replace it at all. Just kicking around the idea for right now.

Keep us updated. :)

I see that you figured out how to post pics :D :lol:

gabe3d 02/10/2008 01:13 AM

I just noticed that from the pic Paul posted and Kennetson1's skimmer, the ones in the factory have a cylinder extension attached to the lower cone. Is this a different model?

kenettson1 02/10/2008 01:38 AM

it could be. Maybe the supermarine 200? Also could be the body for a model using the variable speed pump. Not sure. Just speculation.
