Missing Firefish
 

How long should I wait before being concerned about a missing Firefish? I came home Monday and noticed some of my rock had shifted. By the time I was done, I had to rearrange the majority of it. Haven't seen him since Sunday.

My issue is that the firefish usually hid under one of the rocks between it and the sand. I am afraid he was stuck or crushed. The tank is a 28 G nano cube, so he didn't jump, and he can't get through the overflow, but I am changing the floss tonight, so I will check there anyway.

He was only in the tank a few days before the rock shifted. I think I got him either Wed or Thurs last week.

Check around the tank, too. Excellent jumpers.

Amen to that. They can get through almost any hole.

mine will hide in a hole for days. the opening is smaller than my pinky.

The overflow for the nano cube is sort of a "gate or grate" looking deal and I would not think the fire fish could get through there, but I will get back there today with a flashlight and check it out.

I think I need to set up a webcam to look for him during the day while I'm at work. He is probably all over the tank until I get home!

Good to know that others have fire fish that hide for days.

Sorry bud, but I doubt he is still for this world. IME these guys are not hiders and actually make good dither fish to make more skittish fish feel comfortable.

Actually, if they are intimidated, they will hide until they starve. Potential candidates in a small tank are clownfish.

Well thank you, actually. He rearranged his tank. He didn't add a trigger.

Mine hid constantly when a new fish was added. Would hide for days then pop out and eat.

Lost one a while back I think to my xmas wrasse that went on a tirade. Now my lone one is out all day until the halides kick off then hes back in his cave till they come back on.
