Help Please

I just bought a Deep Blue 55g reef ready aquarium. Up until this point I've run hang on back filtration. I have built a 30g sump/fuge and now in the process of plumbing it. The reef ready came with a plumbing kit. I know what everything is and where it belongs except the 1" strainer fitting. It doesn't seem to go with anything. Maybe I'm just being retarded but could someone tell me what do do with this. Or is it an extra? If this works its a link to a picture of the plumbing kit.

are you talking about the bottom left thingie?

Pic is small for me, but if it is a strainer it would go over the inlet for the drain

Typlus5 03/31/2011 07:50 PM

The durso is the black "u" channel at the top of the waterline. The strainer would go there, pointing down.

^yup! if hes talking about the bottom left thingie. i guess its called a strainer.

It is a strainer as I stated in the initial post. I thought it would go in the inlet for the drain, but the strainer is 1" where as the inlet is 1&3/4". It doesn't fit snuggly in anything... Boo.

Okay. I'm dumb. Or at the least put too much faith in the company that makes the plumbing kit. The drain pipe was all assembled minus the bulkheads so I didn't even think to remove to durso cap (?) But yeah, it fits nicely in there and works as it seems it should.

wait, what did you remove?

should look like that

(i dont claim that picture)

manicmatt 04/02/2011 12:56 PM

Based on the picture that's where i thought the strainer should go but it did not fit there, too small. But if you open the cap at the top of the drain it fit perfectly and blocks where the u meets the down pipe.

eeerm.
you put it here?

if water is flowing threw the top of the pipe, then its no longer a durso. Or, if its just open top, i think that also will defeats the purpose of a durso. it will make alot of noise.

im not familiar with that exact durso kit, but i dont think thats how its supposed to work

(and ooops Forgot to edit out the rest of the blank page, sorry)

double post

manicmatt 04/02/2011 11:15 PM

If you take off the cap at the durso the strainer fits inside the pipe facing upwards and the cap fits back on. The strainer then blocks where the ninty meets the straight pipe. It seems like it'd work, but doesn't seem the most logical route, but its the only place it fits. So either its odd placement or they packaged the wrong size strainer.

Typlus5 04/03/2011 05:38 AM

Went to the purchase site, all the packaging is the same. That 1" strainer should fit into the durso pipe pointing downward. Please measure the diameter of the strainer and the durso pipe input ("U" portion facing downward)
-----------------
Fits all overflow pre-filter systems which accommodate 1" and 3/4" bulkheads. Bulkheads equipped with double gaskets! Includes: Drain & return pipes 1-1/4" to 1" reducer fitting 3/4" elbow fitting adjustable return nozzle 1" barbed bulkhead fitting 3/4" barbed bulkhead fitting 1" strainer fitting

manicmatt 04/03/2011 06:59 AM

1" Strainer. 1-1/4" Drain with a reducer before the bulkhead. The intake for the drain is too large, comically so if you'd like the strainer on the end facing down.
