Hydor evolution 1400s | Wave maker

Greetings all! Was wondering if anyone else out there has experience with this... I purchased two Hydor evolution 1400's and have set them up as a wave maker timed 15 seconds apart via the apex on my 120. I've had it running successfully for a day now and it works well minus one thing... When the evos kick on there is a noticeable click or two that can be herd when standing close to the tank. It doesn't seem to drive the fish crazy, but I'm sure they don't like it either. I seem to recall reading an old thread that said this was a past issue when the evos originally came out and hydor fixed em'. Hydor indicates in their product description that they are safe to use as a wave maker... Anyone else have expierence with this? Is this normal?

Yep, they will click every time they start. There is a rubber bumper inside the front cover that the propeller will bounce off from because the Evolutions like to start in reverse, so when it hits the rubber bumper it forces the powerhead to spin the right way. I have two 1050's in my tank and they do the same thing. One of the front covers on mine already broke and when I contacted Hydor they told me the clicking was normal( been running for almost 7 months with 4 months on the smartwave). But they did send me out replacements at no charge....actually they sent me 5 front covers even though I only needed 2.....which tells me this will forever be a problem with them. I may just go to Vortechs..

I've looked high and low trying to find out if this problem was with every Hydor Evolution prior to buying them, and consistently across the board it appears to be. Some people say it's barely noticible, some say it's overwhelmingly annoying. I want to use these based on price (Vortech's are so expensive) but not sure I want to deal with the sounds.

My yellow tang freaks a little bit every time they come on, so I set the smartwave for longer cycles...

Its certainly not unbarable, and you can only hear it when your close to the tank. Other than the sound I am actually very happy with them. I wish I could justify droping the money on a voretech but I just can't. Orginally I have them send 7 seconds apart, then 10 now 15.

I've got (2) 750's, a 1050 and a 1400 all on a JBJ Wavemaker. They've been running for about 5 months and they do make the clicking noise. Mine don't make it every time. The (2) 750's both broke the bumpers off the covers and Hydor sent me replacement covers. They are very nice pumps, just wish they would reinforce the bumper section of the cover. When I get a chance, I may try to reinforce the bumper area with some glue.

Ive got two evo 750's on the wavemaker and I mine make no noise at all. Granted - my tank has only been running for a week. Only way i can tell mine are running is is the little bit of junk stuck to them will be moving.

Is yours turning the pumps off in between or slowing down the motor? I don't have that luxery with the Apex...
