Stand bigger than tank
I will be building a new stand for my 93 gallon marineland cube, 30x30x24. How can I extend it to get the stand bigger than the tank safely. I will probably build it 33x33. I need to fit a 20 long underneath it and its length is 30 as well, therefore it wont fit because of the 2x4s. Any suggestions or words of wisdom? It will be a 2x4 stand wrapped in plywood.

I did what you are referring to, only difference is mine is steel. I made it all myself for my 120, 48x24x24. Here are some pictures.

Yea that is like what I need but the problem with mine is all the weight would then be on the screws I believe.

Build a ladder style frame on top of posts then sheath the top with 3/4" plywood. The wood will transfer the weight to the side rails and down through the posts.
Even on my steel stand the tank doesn't have any braces directly beneath all edges. If its a rimless tank the weight should be evenly spread out amongst the bottom pane of glass (no pressure points). Also, put a piece of foam between the stand and the tank, it will eliminate pressure points entirely. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk |
Why can't u build your frame 32 by 32 then the tank will still be sitting on top of the frame. It would still sit about 1/2" or so on the frame on all sides then build a door on one of the sides to slide the sump in & out

If you are worried make it longer front to back and run your sump front to back. The stand I built for my 120 is extend to the back 6 inches. I have an external overflow so my stand was going to be that far off the wall any way. Here is the back of the stand when I was fitting my light rack.
