Porcupine Puffer Info?
 

Hey guys,
I am planning on purchasing a porcupine puffer in the future for my reef, I just read a thread on them

Based on what I read I am confident they will be fine in my reef, again I know this is all anectodal evidence, but I am willing to try

So I read up that puffers can die from too much food.. how do I make sure I don't overfeed? Do I just play it safe and underfeed?

Also what do i feed them, I read shrimp, krill, and silversides, but I also read that these are unhealthy for the puffer. Is there any food I can get from the fish market?
Also how often do I feed them?

Will you be putting this fish in your 90g? If so, they need much larger tanks, upwards of 250-300 gallons. There was a whole thread about this recently. Also, they will pretty much eat every invert in your tank. I currently have a blue spotted puffer fish which is much smaller and it has already eaten my two peppermint shrimp, some emerald crabs, snails, and a one of my smaller urchins. I will be putting it in my diplay refugium once I get it setup to avoid any more CuC casualties.

Yes I was planning on it putting it in the 90, I thought they were fine in there? Also my melanurus wrasse has taken out a lot of my CUC, so I am not really worried about that. Is there any other puffer I can go with for a 90? If not puffers I will look into dwarf lions..

The porcupine puffer gets a foot long and min is a 180 larger is better. There are several small puffers you can get. Here is the link to LA's puffer page. It shows pictures as well as tanks size and how large they get when full grown as well as many other bits of info on the particular puffer.

Just sold mine yesterday, had him for a year, the bioload was too much. Could not get my nitrates below 80, that was doing 40% water changes every 20 days, running GFO and a refugium. Started to feed him every other day but it did not matter. When ever someone came up to the tank, he would spit water at them because he wanted to eat all the time. It was heart breaking letting him go but he was too much work.
