180 Gallon Build, New to this community.

Hello,
I am new to this community but have been into saltwater aquariums for about 10 years now. I currently have a 72 gallon Oceanic Bowfront mixed-reef with an MDF stand that is swelling on me. I figured now was a good time to upgrade. I don't trust the stand any more on my 72 gallon so I was on the hunt for a new tank. I found a custom 180 gallon tank at the LFS and decided to buy it because of its deep dimensions. 48" Long x 30" Deep x 28" Tall. The glass is 1/2" thick sides and 3/4" thick bottom with beveled/polished edges. It is basically brand new (used 3 days). I wanted to build a steel stand to support the tank and here are is a picture of the finished stand. It is made from 2" square tubing, 14 gauge and weighs about 90lbs. I still need to build the bottom board to support the 40 gallon sump I am going to use as well. I will post progress pictures as the build goes on. Thanks for looking! -Tony |
I don't think you will have any structural issues with that bad boy! The floor of your house will give way before the stand :)

Updates:
Finished the stand and painted it. Got the tank on the stand and going for a peninsula style setup because the tank is drilled that way. Here are a few pictures: Going with a 40 gallon breeder with a Fiji Cube baffle kit. Really happy with the baffle kit and filter sock setup. It was pretty easy to install as well. Highly recommended! Also started the bottom plumbing for the tank :-) Thanks for looking! |
