2-3 fish, here is a link to easy to care for corals:

I like to start with corals (easy to care for type) and then fish (slowly).
Clown fish, Royal Grammas, Firefish, Skunk (cleaner) shrimp all are easy to care for and reef safe fish/invertebrates.
