Stray Voltage

I recently got a tank controller and the PH probe is reading low and I was told stray voltage could cause this... I tested and my voltmeter reads about 7 to 9. I turn off the skimmer and it drops about 3 and turn off the return pump and it goes down another few... Is this a big problem and my equipment faulty or is this not an issue.

thanks.

At that voltage you should probably add a grounding probe. I currently have about 2 VAC and that doesn't concern me much. Electricity leaks out of the wire sheathing and pump casing. A probe will send it to ground and remove the voltage. Besides, what does it hurt to run a probe? You're out about 10 bucks.

I would replace the pump in the skimmer, it's leaking voltage with will only get worse. Obviously grounding probe and GFCI outlet are required as well. IMO 9 is just to high.

I cleaned off the light brackets and wiped off my wires and now with everything running it is at 1.3... I think i will add a ground probe as well to be safe i think this and my dang Spotted Hawkfish are why I've gone from a hundred snails to maybe 20.
