Ph question

My lights come on at 6:00 am, ramp up for 3 hours, run full intensity until 4:00pm, then ramp down for 3 hours, turning totally off at 7:00pm. Shown below is a graph of 1 weeks ph readings. 100% of the time the reef’s ph bottoms out at exactly 6:00 am and peaks at 5:00pm.

I’m familiar with coral respiration but why does it peak exactly 1 hour post light intensity like clockwork. Is this true of all reefs. Just curious. Thx.

I have no idea. Is there any other light reaching the tanks? Have you measured the actual intensity change?

The tank is in living room and receives minimal other light. Here’s my Hydra HD26 graph that tracks my lighting:

I looked back using the apex historical data and this 5pm Ph peak is consistent going back months.

Well, I can only speculate. It's possible that the corals are photosynthesizing at the same rate until shortly before the pH begins to drop. More light only mean more photosynthesis when the organisms haven't reached any other limit. So your corals might be blocked by other nutrients or simple photosynthetic capacity at the lower light level, or the consumption rate might still exceed the aeration rate unit 5:00 pm. Those are just some possibilities. We could try some experiments, if you'd like, but you'd probably need to play with the lighting level.
