I would like to setup two 40 breeders side by side w/o sumps to keep small fish like blennies, gobies, pseudochromis, clowns and damsels, and maybe a dwarf angel or two, I would like input on filter ideas and media to use please Thanks and what skimmer or would one even be necessary??

you can get a filter with built in skimmer. put some ceramic media before the floss. 1 1/2 lb. live rock per gallon. And do water change you will be fine.

Are you going to connect the two tanks or just side by side?

You should see my build. I built 2 40b display tanks with a 40b sump on a shelving rack.

NO I HAVE the sumps already on a 125 and 180 , I wanted to try something different with good long term results and less financial outlay on a smaller scale for small fish, not corals, just small fish in both side by side tanks

That's a placebo skimmer and the fuges are too small to do any significant nutrient reduction as well. Just because a product exists does not mean it works as advertised.

I plan to use aquaclear 70 filters aon each end of tanks w carbon, purigen and polyfilter which should take care of all organics, metals and pollutants of any sort, Maybe add a skimmer on or in tank if I feel it is needed , but small water changes w Ro/di from spectrapure might nix that idea entirely.
