Looking for a new tank...opinions?
Currently i have a 25g cube and as you all warned me in the beginning, i want a bigger tank. The small tank is great, but i've come to realize that since fish options are limited the tank focus becomes the corals. Although there is nothing worng with this, i love it, i would also like to get some bigger fish.
So the hunt for a tank begins. I have a 90g right now with a stand, the problem is that it has a large chip in the glass right in the corner of the front window. I'm nervous about having 90 gallons of water in a damaged tank and i'd kinda like a 120g. The 120 to me allows for a more 3D effect since it's so much wider. Anyway i don't know what to look for in a tank as far as quality or manufacturer. The 25 i didni't care because i didn't know any better anyway. I do know this, i want a glass tank not an acrylic. So what are some of the brands to look for and brands to stay away from? What is Euro bracing and is that important? What is the recommended glass thickness for a large tank?

Euro bracing is wide flat glass or acrylic pieces on rimless tanks that go around the top inside in liu of a rim. The glass thickness depends on the height of the tank.
I have a 120 48" tank and love it though I wish I could have done the 60x24x24 (180 I think).

I am shopping for a tank myself. GlassCages are the cheapest available, but they have mixed reviews. Great Lakes Aquarium cose 50% more in price, and they are very reputable. I am leaning toward ordering from them. Shipping can be costly depends on where you live. Every other company quoted me between 3-5 times as much. C2C are the most expensive (very expensive).

Just upgraded from 75 to 120 in 4-2-2 foot print.
Great size with 40 breeder for sump The depth really adds to what you can do with the rock work. Get a tank you trust! The few hundred $ you save never seems worth it if ever question your choice. |

Go with the 120 (4x2x2). Makes aquascaping much easier. Go with the tank style you prefer (framed or rimless) and get one you are comfortable/confident with. Sorry I can't offer brand specific advice.
